What’s down there?
16 lines
prompt. Use Old House, Lights Flicker, Basement, Door in a poem.

Lights flicker when I flick the switch.
Perhaps it is a power glitch?
An old house protesting,
Or maybe it is only testing.

The basement door it opened wide.
At first, I couldn’t see inside,.
Until the power it sustained,
Although as if it was constrained.

Down the creaking stairs I went,
My heart in sync with my descent.
But when I saw what lay around
My heart’s rate soon began to pound.

A body, stabbed and blooded.
The floor all wet, the basement flooded.
Up the stairs I fast ascended
And that is how my story ended.
