My wife and I compete a bit.
Most days all start out just the same
since leaving the rat race.
All my routines are firmly set;
my habits are in place.

I eat the same stuff every day,
my cereal and toast.
It didn’t take me long to find
that’s what I like the most.

Once breakfast is out of the way
I let the games begin.
This is a challenge to my wits,
but one I seldom win.

Yeah, Wordle’s what I tackle first.
I’m bummed if I get four.
But I admit there have been days
when it has taken more.

My wife and I compete a bit.
We’re pretty even though.
Sometimes I win, sometimes she does.
Here no one gets to crow.

Connections is the next game up.
That’s relatively new.
And neither one of us excels.
With this we’re even too.

Sudoku is the next in line,
a classic from the past.
My wife is better at this game.
I often finish last.

Oh, this does not go over well
when my ego is bruised.
I challenge her to arm wrestle
but she is not amused.

So she declines, I knew she would,
with an emphatic “NO”.
Well, being the man that I am,
it's now my turn to crow,

Hey, I will do all that I can
to even up the score.
Okay, I am a selfish lout,
a cretin and a bore.

But since she left me here alone,
I’ll take that as a win.
I’ll rest up for tomorrow when
the next round will begin.
