DESERT THUNDER

Deep in the barren desert,
Amid the cactus and tumbleweed,
Ran a herd of wild horses
Led by a magnificent steed.

Hooves flashed as they ran onward;
Like the echo of thunder the sound!
Escaping the heat of the desert
Yet never a hoofprint was found.

For the desert held no illusion
Of sustaining life ever again -
Each night the herd of wild horses
Disappeared where once they had been.

It is but a ghostly thunder
Caused by some unearthly twist
Of the days when herds of wild horses
Once ran through green fields of mist.

Nature will keep all its secrets
And to accept the story as true -
For what once was is no longer
What you believe, is all up to you.
