What would I tell an alien about Earth? What would I share? |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sharing With Aliens What would I show you if you voyaged from the stars? Many things I’d share with you for traveling so far. I’d present you with roses minus all the thorns. We’d go watch the sunrise on that very first morn. I’d offer you strawberries, to sample the sweet. We’d walk through the sprinkler in the grass with our feet. I’d push you on a swing with your legs in the air. I’d let you sit down in my old rocking chair. Then we’d sip on our cokes and “chew the hay.” And I’d explain about God and how some of us pray. I’d listen to your words, and hope I would hear All the things you'd relate -- those things most dear. I’d teach you to laugh; we'd share one of my books. Then off to the kitchen, and pizza we’d cook. And perhaps, we would swim in the city-owned pool, And ride in a bus, and I'd show you my school. I wonder how long you’d be willing to stay. If you’d sojourn the night, we could take in a play. Or, I bet you’ve never seen a real cinema show. We could watch “Star Wars” if you have any dough. No, maybe that wouldn’t be the right thing to do. It might be the one thing I truly would rue. For then you would realize we always have war, And I bet then you’d think we were awful bores. At least, I hope you would find war something to spurn. Because I desperately hope that’s something we’d learn From sharing our thoughts with a man from the stars Who’d come on a visit from a planet so far. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
