COMING HOME

Love's got a way of healing the pain
When you've been through a world of hurt;
When your soul has been shattered
And it's too hard not to be curt.

Not too many can understand it,
When you speak of the dirt and the sand
That you crawled through to find safety
In that far off distant land.

You've seen friends die in battle,
Dirt-caked faces staring up at the sky;
You wonder if you'll ever make it,
And sometimes you just wonder why.

Battle scars are sometimes not seen
By the naked human eye -
Sometimes the brain absorbs the pain;
Even a grown man can cry.

When the fighting is done, victory won
At a cost no one can foresee;
Love's waiting somewhere, and you
Are coming home to your families.

The way that you cope is a cruel joke,
For the battle still rages on in your mind.
No one seems to care that you were there
In the dirt, the sand and the grime!

Yet there is one who followed the sun
And was with you each step of the way,
He stayed by your side throughout the ride;
Love's given by God every day!
