SAYING GOODBYE

In the beginning I never thought
That I would feel the loss as much;
I would come to visit, and be wrapped
In her embrace, feel her touch.

Once I realized it was the end,
I felt the sorrow and tears;
Knowing death has cheated us
Of so many precious years.

The past forgotten, I let
The tears, the sorrow embrace;
Once I knew and saw the face of death
I accepted the loss of the race.

Saying goodbye as we embrace,
I brush away the tears.
The memories never forgotten,
Death knocks; she hears.

Dedicated to my sister Alma June, who has Alzheimers.
