Looking for a friend.
Perseverance.
Do I know you?
You are but a word to me
I know you not although
You pursue me
And watch me from afar.

I wish I know you
I wish I am intimate with you
As intimate as lovers are
Will you come to me,
When I am in need of you?
When in my darkest hour
I call out your name?

Will you fish me out from
The depths of human weakness?
Desparate and despondent
Suffering in the clutches of
Quit's arms?

Where are you?
Will you find me before
It is too late?
Before all hope
Disappears into the black hole
Of no return?

I cry and my cries echo back to my senses.
Dare I hope that perseverance
Is not deaf and indeed capable
Of some mercy and grace?
To forgive me for not
Responding earlier?

Is it too late to realise my mistake?
Am I not worth your mercy?
Forgive my obstinate ways
And let me see your face
Once again
To feel your breath against me
As you merge into my being
As I absorb your qualities
That you once offer so freely
to me.
