This is one of the first things i ever wrote

Trimming the leaves of life
taking a small part away at a time
little bits of life that fall to the ground
never fully realizing their full potential
littered across the ground
intentions unfulfilled
wishes unspoken
dreams broken
life lost

Why does this happen
are we unable to find happiness
can we find ourselves in others
what can we find in another person
the completion of a form of expression
shown through daily actions performed
said a person is only half a person
without their soulmate
we're born with them
not to be found
outside

Illusions dancing just out of reach
reaching for something never meant to be
grasping at the chance to be brought to an end
slipping through your hands and still fluttering
hardly clinging to that spark of life
wind gusting to and fro
ground approaching
faster and faster
silence reigns

The world holds its breath
split second of mourning for that loss
unconciously forgetting the struggle inside
single tear tracks down your face
smearing the image of despair
the world knocks at you
spoils the agony
you sigh

The tree is almost bare now
leaves of life around your feet
prospect of an existance of drudgery
gritting your teeth against continual pain
nothing to do but continue on
day after endless day
all reason vanished
all hope gone
you sob

Taking that leap of faith
closing your eyes for fear of failure
clenching tightly together fanning a spark inside
pouring everything into just one last chance
sagging with fatigue your body bleeds
breath comes slow and shallow
heart falters in time
light flickers
you fall

No one is there to interrupt your downfall
crashing towards the finality everything experiences once
wonder did you do everything you were needed to
anything left unfinished and behind
forever lost in the void of time
unable to scream its name
chained to nothing
you end

The next person in line steps forward
neverending cycle is repeated forever and again
line unbroken reaching past the far horizons
watching from that lofty place above
laughing or crying or sighing
doing nothing but looking
at something tortured
life rages

The tree is reborn in the essence of another unwitting being
dreams of leaves and life sway slowly to their final destination
uncomprehension dawns with knowledge lost forevermore
sadness permeating throughout the souls of the living
bearing them down endless flights of incomprehension
flame flares with righteous indignation
smothered with less than a thought
cycle continues unbroken
wind blows the dust
broken dreams
emptiness
death
