ASKING FOR THE MOON

When my brother was a little boy
just past the age of four,
He used to watch the moon at night
and would open up the door

To follow the moon's travels
as it slowly moved across the sky;
He said "Daddy, I want the moon!",
and then he'd question "why"

When Daddy said "Impossible!
the moon's too far away!"
Still he kept asking for the moon
in his little child-like way.

So Daddy got his paintbrush
and cut a circle out of wood;
Soon he had made his son a moon,
He thought that it was good.

He placed the moon on the pillow
beside his son's sleepy head;
and watched as a chubby arm
hugged the moon and said

"I know its not the real moon,
'cause it's still up in the sky;
but thank you, daddy, anyway,
for giving it a try!"
