trying to reconnect with a dead past
I drove the old familiar roads
That time let be,
To wake,
To live
In patterned remembrance.
But the day played tricks on me;
You were not home.
And the tape ran down
slurring the songs
and sunset was lost in drizzle.
No rainbows today,
Just the same old ache
I’ve carried so long
In the same old spot in my chest.
I just sped past
and did not stop,
Traveling familiar roads.
