Random thoughts and ideas about writing...
This journal will probably be mostly about new writing ideas and discoveries, with the odd other thing thrown in with it.
I'll do my best to keep writing here regularly, to keep the creativity going and keep me in the habit of writing. Plus if I keep coming back everyday to update my blog I should end up writing other stuff on writing.com too... I will trick my imagination into writing if I have to! (hopefully I won't need to trick it, but just in case *Wink*).

I found a name for my character! It took a while but I don't think 'Anaya' isn't too bad, and it's close enough to the other names to fit in. It has a decent meaning too, which I have promptly forgotten, but I know it was good.

Woohoo! I hate searching for character names, so now I can just write it in peace!

Okay, so I really haven't done a lot today, but, hey I'll just say I was concentrating on getting over my cold *Bigsmile* ... which is near enough gone, so that's probably the last time I can use it as an excuse.

Well, I have done a bit... I did some of my homework... *ignores the fact that this homework was watching Life of Brian*... and I did a bit of my nephews birth chart... a very small bit...

Oh, I finished my book too! Whiich, since I posted all the reading I have to do a while ago... maybe I should update that...

Old list of books to read
The Gift
The Riddle
The Crow
The Last of the Wilds
The Sword of Shannara
The Elfstones of Shannara
The Scions of Shannara
DragonQuest
The Dragonbone Chair
The one after the Dragonbone Chair... forgotten the title of that one!

I posted that over a month ago, and so far out of that list I have read The Last of the Wilds, The Gift, and I just finished The Riddle and started The Crow. I've also read some books not on that list, because I happened to find the next in the Chronicals of Darkness series out, and read that first since it's a short book. Plus I had to do some reading for uni, so that took over the best part of a week too.

However, I haven't added any new books to the list, so I'm getting there. Just as long as I'm done by Christmas, otherwise those books will keep getting put off for ever, and I really do want to read them. Well, okay, a couple of them can be put off until after all the Christmas books... bah, Christmas is months away, I'm not going to think about that yet!

Now I'm off to go and try to cook pasta for tea... shame, my best friend bought all her ready meals without thinking, and they're short dated, so we decided not to order a pizza this week, which leave me one ready meal short... hence the pasta. Oh, well, I've got a nice microwavable sauce for it anyway... I've mostly mastered the art of using a microwave now *Laugh*

It's typical really; I hardly ever get migranes- I've had about two or three in my life until now- but today I got my second one in less than ten days. Really bad timing too, since it started just as I reached my lecture.

Luckily, the actual headache wasn't too bad, especially considering that I was stuck in a lecture with no headache tablets. It was the fact that when I get a migrane I see flashing lights with create a big blind spot- loosing the right half of your vision during a lecture is not helpful. Especially when it happends to be the day that they are going to do art type stuff, and made us all do drawing.

Actually, that wasn't as bad as it could have been, because the serious drawing bit came at the end, by which time my sight was almost back normal.

However, at the point where I could hardly see a thing, the lecturer started handing out forms for us to read and sign, to do with the visit to the wolf sanctuary we're going on. I believe I was signing a disclaimed to say that if the wolves attacked me, it wasn't their fault, but I couldn't see the page, so I'm not sure. We also had to read all the safety rules for it, but luckily we were allowed to take that sheet away with us, so I just read it when I got back, and had recovered from the migrane.

The rules certainly cleared up any uncertainty about how close to the wolves we're going to get; 'Keep one hand free (near your face) at all times when stroking a wolf'. So, hmm, yeah, that's quite close *Laugh* Should be fun though, I'm quite looking forward to that visit- beats lectures anyway *Bigsmile*

I've not done a lot writing wise, and to be honest, I ddon't think there's the faintest chance that I'm going to reach 40000 words, so I'm not really going to bother too much about that. I'll keep writing it still, since it was a project I wanted to do anyway, and it's good that I've got 10000 words in, even if it wasn't as much as I was hoping. I am getting into the story though, and want to keep writing a reasonable amount, but I'm going to try without a particular target again. It's fine normally, but I don't feel like writing so much when I've got a cold, and with these headaches, there are going to be days where I don't write much. Since I got this cold I've fallen really behind on my wordcount, so it's easier just to think in terms of keeping writing than catching up.

I just hope I don't get a cold in November! Honestly though, I'm going to try and do a lot on the first day of NaNoWriMo. I know I'm not good at keeping up a steady writing pace, so I'm not going to try and write like that- I'll get myself a headstart to begin with, and then when I have a bad day it won't make such a difference. Plus, I'm one of those people who does better if they're already ahead; if I'm behind and trying to catch up, I write a lot less than if I were on target to begin with.

And now, finally, I am going to stop rambling, and go to bed, I think. Thank goodness Wednesday and Thursday are a second weekend (no lectures either day)! Especially since I still need to do that birth chart for my nephew... by this weekend *Laugh*

Okay, not a lot has happened today, so I am going to tell you some of the funny names and meanings that I found. They're only ones from the first half of the alphabet though, because I haven't gotten further than that yet.

So first, since I mentioned it yesterday; Kilenya, which means coughing fish. That's probably the randomest meaning I found, although there are a few others...

(Sorry if anyone has any of these names, but the meanings made me laugh!)

Randomness
Althea-     Marshmallow
Cybele-     She of the Hair
Keran-     Wooden Post
Ellema-     Milking a Cow
Algernon-     With a Moustache
Acacallis-     No Walls

Oh, and there are the ones that make you think Why would someone want to call their child something that meant that?

Kennedy-     Ugly Head
Kaseko-     Mock, Ridicule
Jatin-     Having Matted Hair
Izefia-     I Have No Child     (oh that's a real nice thing to name your child!)
Muunokhoi-     Vicious Dog
Cormac-     Destroying Son
Eris-     Strife
Ilom-     My Enemies Are Many
Delila-     One Who Weakened
Ichabod-     Departed Glory

And then there are the ones that are somewhere in between....

Huslu-     Hairy Bear
Gavivi-     Money is Sweet
Beyla-     By God!     (no, I did not add the exclamation mark in myself)
Aithley-     Born in a Garden
Eldon-     The Old Servant

There were more, but I probably shouldn't put too many lists in. Not everyone is as easy amused as me I expect, but I hope these have been funny rather than boring... once the dull weekend is over I might have something else to blog about anyway *Smile* -and I still haven't found good names for any of my characters!

A very short entry today, because it's late, and I'm still full of cold.

I've just been looking for a new name for one of my characters (a search which is not going well) and I got a bit sidetracked looking at the meaning of names. Some of them are just so random, or so... well, I wouldn't want them as the meaning of my name. I'll have to do a post some time, with random name meaning I've come across, because some of them really are quite funny. They just make you wonder if people check the meaning before they name their kid that, and if they do then why do they like the name?

I always get sidetracked when looking for names. I'm just so bad at naming characters, and this one's particularly awkward. I've already re-named them once, but it still doesn't suit.

Ah well, I'm going to go sleep now I think. I'm being too easy amused by names that mean 'coughing fish' so that's probably a sign that I'm tired- either that, or it is just funny. I can't tell.

I haven't done much writing today, and although I'm going to attempt to once I've finished this entry, I doubt I'll get far with it.

I'm having a bit of a bleh day today, probably caused by the fact that I'm starting a cold. It's at that rather annoying stage where you have a bit of every cold symptom, but none of them bad enough to really complain about. Like I have a bit of a headache, and a bit of a sore throat, and I'm a bit shivery. Oh well, I'll just hope that I manage to get rid of it fairly quickly.

Now I am going to go and try to write, even though I'm fairly sure it won't work. It's weird, because I'd quite like to be writing, but I'm completely out of ideas. Plus my concentration tends to be pretty bad when I've got a cold. Sorry for having a lot of complaining and not a lot else in my blog today, but at least it's a fairly short entry.

Well, I only wrote about one sentence after yesterdays final blog entry (which saved me correcting a lot of typos today *Laugh* but I've done about 2000 words today, which is good. Although I probably should have been doing the work I have to hand in tomorrow, but I'll do that in the morning...

The worrying thing is, I have more typos to correct now, after not having drunk anything, than I did last night... the only difference is that now I see them and correct them *Laugh*

I forgot to mention in my drunk blog entry, about the pizza- that was a very nice pizza! I don't know if I've ordered from domino's before, but I deffinately will be again, and I'll probably have the same one I did last night; BBQ based pizzas are the best. Well, they are when you don't like tomato at all, anyway.

Now I shouldn't have mentioned that, because it made me hungry and I'm not cooking for another hour. That's one problem with this house- the kitchen isn't big enough for us all to cook at once, so generally the others have the kitchen from six 'til seven, then me and my two friends take the kitchen after that. That wouldn't be so bad, but my room's right next to the kitchen, so I can always smell their food and it makes me hungry! Bah, the other two are lucky living downstairs.

Well, not really, because there isn't enough cupboard space, so most of us have to keep some of our stuff in the kitchen, and some in our rooms, which means a lot of going in between when we cook, and I only have to go across the hall, rather than running up and down the stairs.

Now, I'm going to go catch up on everyone else's blogs I think *Smile*

And now, In the manner of DragonFly, I am going to do a drunk blog! Okay, it's not a complete blog entry probably, and I'm more bery tipsy than completely drunk, nut you get the idea! I'm having to correct a lot of typos, so I guess that's drunk enough.

Woo, housemates should have birthdays everyday... except I just drank my last bottle of wine, so they can't have any more birthdays until I get more wine.

I don't really know why I'm going to try and write right now, but I'm going to. I'm behin on my wordcount, so any writing is good, surely? Well, not really, but I can always edit. I'll tell you how bad the resulting chapter is tomorrow... if I get round to writing and don't just start posting on random forums... I already have all of the documents open ready to write, but I doubt that will make a difference...

Wooo.... (for some reason I just keep typing that word)....

Just noticed the halloween decorations on the site- nice! I like it when the site's decorated like that, although it confused me the first time, because I found writing.com on the last day of the Christmas decorations, and the first time I looked around, the top all was nice and snowy, and then I looked back later that day and it was gone; I couldn't work out hat had happened at first, and thought I must have imagined it.

Anyway, I did do a tiny bit of writing yesterday, and I've done an almost reasonable amount today. To be honest, I probably won't reach 40k, but I'm still getting a decent amount done on a story I wanted to write anyway, so it's worth carrying on no matter how far behind I get. I'm glad I just called this a practice and said that it's no big deal whether I reach the target or not, because I'm busy being distracted by the NaNoWriMo forums being opened up, so until I get past the novelty of having those to post on I'll be writing less that usual.

I'm really enjoying re-writing my novel though, which is strange because I wasn't expecting to. The only re-writing I've done before have just been for odd passages and scenes that didn't sound right, and I always found it kind of annoying writing the same thing over again just a bit different. Maybe it's just because I like to write things in order, and plus, alterering one or two paragraphs in an already existing scene is much more fiddly than re-writing the whole scene.

I've been surprised by how much I'm changing the beginning too, but then, I never liked the opening of my first draft much, so I guess that's a good thing. The old one never seemed particularly realistic, so I've been trying to correct that a bit with this one. Plus, it's helping sort out a characterisation issue I had- you see, my characters always seize a personality for themselves, which is great, because it means they're usually pretty alive but the problem is they don't do it until I start writing, and then it takes a few scenes. So the first few scenes quite often seem out of character when I go back to re-read them, because at that point the characters are still doing as I tell them.

Wow, I really seem to be rambling a lot today... I guess I'm just in a rambling sort of mood. Oh well, I'd better go soon and order a pizza from dominos... gotta love student discounts *Bigsmile*

Okay, so I've already missed one day's blogging, but one day isn't a big deal. Nothing much happened yesterday anyway, aside from me not getting anything done at all- which includes no writing on my practice NaNo.

Actually, I haven't done any writing yet today either, but there's still time. I've remembered to blog, and I'll remember to write as well, just as soon as I get round to it.

I really wanted to write earlier, actually, but unfortunately I was halfway through a lecture at the time, so writing then and there wasn't really an option, and by the time I got back I'd forgotten about it. Nevermind though, I'll do some writing in a bit.

There are two entries for Create a Culture already so I guess it's going to go okay this time too. Obviously having small prizes isn't making too much of a difference, so that's good.

I have to admit, that when it came to getting my glasses back from whichever of my housemates had them, I just waited until they were on the draining board and took them back, since it was probably a mix up in the first place. To be honest, most of us in the house did buy the same kind, so everyone's have been turning up in the wrong places.

Oh, and I know this is completely skipping back to my earlier topic, and I should just edit and put this further up in the entry, but oh well I putting it here anyway- I've officially signed up to NaNo now! I couldn't sign up on the first of October, because they hadn't got it set up when I went on there, but I signed up yesterday instead.

Now I just have to get back to my writing again....

Well, I went home for the weekend, and I've just got back to uni with lots of ready meals.

Unfortunately, when I went to go put all my newly bought food on my shelf in the fridge, I found that it had been cleared of my stuff, and was full of someone elses- the first annoying thing. I guessed that the food might belong to my best friend, who had just come back with me, but had brought her food up to the kitchen before me, and I was right, so I managed to get her to move her stuff to her shelf, in the other fridge. But the thing is, she put her food there because the shelf was empty- someone had already moved all my stuff, for no reason, over the weekend.

I found it all, in the wrong places, and put it back, along with my new food, hoping that it would happen again (because we're all buying ready meals at the moment, so if it's on the wrong shelf the wrong person will probably eat it and I don't want to lose all my food). So then I went to go get a glass of water, and found that all of my glasses were gone.

Everyone in the house has glasses, so why do they feel the need to use mine, which were all put away in my cupboard, which no one else need ever go to? Or at least if they use them, wash them, dry them, and put them back in my cupboard, rather than adding them to their own (now extremely extensive) range of glasses in their own cupboard. Seriously, I think that one person now has all the glasses of the entire house in their cupboard, whilst the rest of us have none!

Sorry, rant of the day over now, it just annoyed me when I got back to find all my stuff missing/ in the wrong places. I had a migrane this morning (thankfully a very rare thing for me) which combined with coming back here, put me in a bit of a bad mood. But I'm going to try and ignore that now....

My NaNoWriMo is going... well, it's only a few days in so far, and I'm not far behind, not very anyway. I've just got to finish today's writing, but I don't want to stay up late writing. I did that last Thursday, unfortunately, and ended up hearing the others coming back drunk, most of which I ignored until I overheard a passing, not very complimentary remark about myself. Technically, I kind of ignored that too, but it's put me off of late night writing here for a bit. But another thousand words or so today should be enough to get me back on target, and then I just have to try and stay that way.

At least I'm getting into the re-write of one of my novels now, I've done most of my writing so far on that. I've never really done a proper re-write of anything before, unless you count when I started to re-write the very first novel/novella I wrote, in which the original was so bad (it was the first thing of any real length that I had written) that the re-write didn't follow it at all.

On this one, however, generally the first draft was pretty good, except that everything seems worded wrong, and the dialogue doesn't sound right, so my second draft is following the first very closely, and just rewording things when they need it (okay, so that's almost all of the time *Laugh*). I had thought that that would be boring, but actually it's fun, because I don't need to think half as much. The structure is all pretty much sorted out, and it's so much easier to see the big picture, that the writing really is fun, with no stress (none of my writing really makes me stressed if I'm honest, but what I mean is that there's more typing and less staring blankly at the screen).

Now I seem to have rambled forever again, so I will stop soon. The only thing I have to add is that last month's blogging was somewhat random, and there were more days not blogging, than blogging, which I'm hoping will not be the case this month. I'm going to try and be more like in August, where I only missed about two days.

Oh, and my contest won't be up for a few days, because I haven't started work on it yet. Maybe at some point in the week I'll do it.

Okay, things have started getting a bit more normal-ish now, and I discovered that I don't mind the food quite so much as long as I still make plenty of cups of tea (I'd been being lazy before and not bothering) and have canned soups.

As always when things start to go a bit normal and quiet, I've come up with stupid word targets again- tomorrow I'm going to start a practice NaNoWriMo, which leaves me a few days to recover before the real thing. Now before anyone thinks 'oh no, not that again!' (if you haven't already) I will say that I'm being a bit more sensible about it this time; it's intended to be a practice NaNo, so I'm not going to worry too much about whether I manage it or not- it's the real one I'm going to count, not this. Also, I'm relaxing/altering a couple of the NaNo rules for this one (since it's just a practice, and therefore in my reasoning, should be easier).

Firstly, I'm aiming for 40000 words, not 50000, so I can get away with the odd day off. Secondly, I'm not confining myself to one novel, but to four- as long as I write 40000 words altogether from those four, I win. This should help stop the problem I had over the summer with getting bored just writing one story.

Also, I'm not starting from scratch- I already have too many projects going that I want to finish, so I'm just using four of those, and not counting what I've already done on them. Actually, one of the novels is a re-draft, so I might end up using the odd passage that was good from the first draft, but since this is just a practice I'll count the words anyway if I do that.

And finally, these four novels are also on my to do list for next year- meaning that if I complete this I will have 40000 less words to do then, and even if I fail, it's still worth getting as close to it as I can, because it will still make a difference next year.

Since it's 40000 words on four novels, I'm tempted to say I'll do 10000 on each, but I'm not going to be too fussy over that. If I happen to really get into one story, I don't want to be held back by thinking that I really should be working on one of the others, so if at the end I've done most of it on one story, and hardly touched the others then that's fine, at least it means I've got a lot of work done on that one. So I will start with the rough aim of 10000 on each in mind, but I'm counting it more as a vague starting guideline than a rule, and I won't hesitate to drop it if I find myself more enthusiastic about one story than another.

Oh, and since that isn't enough *Bigsmile* I'm starting up my raffle and Create A Culture again! Well in the next few days, anyway, I've still got to go through them and edit things to get them ready for another round. At the moment I'm thinking of opening them again on the 1st of October, but we'll see about that... I might get impatient and do it before, or lazy and do it later *Laugh*

The prizes will have to be small, unless I get any donations, like last time, but I'm not going to worry about that too much. People entered the contest last time before the prizes went up, so I don't think it should be a huge problem, and I've got enough points to make a small set of prizes anyway. I think I'll leave the contest running for about a month and a half, since people seemed to like having a longer deadline last-time (I got one review that said that was good anyway). Of course, that means I'll be doing the judging during the second half of the real NaNoWriMo, but oh well, I'll sort that out when it gets to it. I'm allowing myself a little longer for the judging this time anyway, in case I get as many entries as last time (which I probably won't, but just in case).

Anyway, I think I've finished rambling for the day... *Bigsmile*

I can now use the internet all the time!

The second time I tried to log in from my room, my computer didn't recognise the cable I and I thought I had lost internet again, which was scary. But it turned out that the cable just needed jamming in the wall a bit harder, so it's all fine now.

I had my first two lectures today (essentially half of the week's work done already!) which were good, and pretty interesting. I had 'The History of English Language' and 'Fictional Writing' today, and tomorrow I've got 'Creativity'.

I've already got homework though. I've done part of it, which was to read a short story- which was awful. Seriously, 24 pages of story, and not at a single point did I know what was going on. But apart from that, I've also got to go to a public place, watch someone, and write down everything they do, and make a character chart out of it. Let's just hope that whatever random stranger I pick doesn't notice me watching them and taking notes!

And then I've got to look up the origin of the word 'nice' and how it got into the language, and all the different spellings of it that were used in the 14th century. Of all the words to pick though, I have to research 'nice'? Still, you never know, it might be interesting.

Oh, and as part of our writing course, we have to go and meet some wolves. Yes, I said wolves, to help us with our writing course. Don't ask me for the reasoning on that one, but hey, I get to go to a wolf sanctuary! Not for a few weeks yet, but it will be fun when we do.

The food here is rubbish, because I have to cook for myself, and I can't cook, which means I get poorly cooked pasta everyday, with nothing else. I did manage soup today though, so that was a bit better, and I'm going home this weekend so I'll have good food again for a couple of days anyway.

I've been pretty lucky with the people I'm living with, they all seem nice enough, and so do most of the people I've met here, so that's good. Over all, everything seems fine here now that I've got my internet...

Gah, hopefully my internet will be working properly soon- I've had more time without the internet than with this month *Frown*

I've just been looking at my plan for what to write next year- and it has led me to the conclusion that I am insane. There are three novels that I want to write, plus re-writing another two novels, and doing NaNoWriMo in November. So that's six novels. Six novels in one year- and I've already cut out another three.

It isn't quite so bad though... out of the three novels that I want to do the first draft for next year (not counting NaNo) I have already got about half-way through two of them.

One of the ones I'm re-writeing isn't very long either, because it's aimed at 12-13 year olds, so in normal terms it's really more of a novella... at least, the first draft was. And the other re-write will probably still steal whole passages from the original, plus I should hopefully start it before next year.

So all in all, it works out to about 24000-25000 words per month of writing/re-writing, except for November of course (I'm putting my other writing on hold for then, because I've learnt from my summer attempt that more just isn't possible for me). Of course, if I get a sudden burst of inspiration for any of those stories before the end of the year it might be a bit less, but with NaNo coming up that may be unlikely.

So who thinks I'm crazy? Or is that managable?

Unlike my summer NaNoWriMo, these are actually real novels that I'm enthusiastic about, and enjoy writing. However, I will no longer have as much free time for most of the year, because I'll be at uni... but hopefully once I get started with writing these novels again then I won't notice the 25000 words.

Hmmm.... well, it could happen.

Okay, I know I only left the blog about twenty minutes ago, but I'm back.

Stiggles posted a link to http://kevan.org/johari? in her blog, so I just had to go make one myself- and now I'm going to post it here for anyone to fill in if they want! Or make their own *Smile*

I'm back! My holiday is over, and in four days I start university instead!

The holiday was good- especially since it turns out that it has been raining all week at home, and we didn't get a drop of rain on holiday *Laugh*

We only had an ambulance called out to our cottage at 6:30AM once, too! They took my brother off to the hospital, but he was back before lunch, and it was what we thought- a pulled back muscle from where we all went karting the day before. But because he couldn't move with it, and had chest pains, they wanted to take him to the hospital anyway. But he could walk again within a few hours, so they gave him painkillers and sent him back. At least it was near the end of the holiday, not at the start. Especially since we got to use the indoor swimming pool at the hotel next door for free.

When we were on the way out of the hotel one time, we saw a leaflet for massages and things like that which they did there, and I decided to book a manicure. So, the next day I had my nails all filed and painted and everything, being careful to take the money out before my nails were painted, so that I didn't smudge them. I know how bad I am with that, and since I was actually paying to have my nails done for once, rather than doing them myself, I was determined to be careful. So I had all my money ready, didn't put my rings back on in case of knocking them- and then I missed the doorhandle on the way out, and scraped all the nails on one hand before I even got out of the building *Worry* So I thought, well, at least they are nicely filed... the next day I broke a nail, and I have been chipping them ever since. *Rolleyes*

But, the great thing is, that even though I knew I would not be able to get internet, I took my laptop so I could at least do a bit of writing- I'm glad I did! No, I didn't write a lot- but I did plan my NaNo novel. You see, one of the days we went to the aquarium, and there I was, hapily wandering around looking at sharks and things, and suddenly a fully fledged plot hit me! And before anyone asks- no, it has absolutely nothing to do, even in the remotest way, with an aquarium, or any kind of sea life. But, by the time I got home I even had some structure to my plot- so I was able to quickly write it down and save the file.

Before anybody points out that I didn't need a laptop for that; a pen and notepad would have worked just as well- you are right, I could have written it down in a notepad. I would then, however, have promptly forgotten which notepad it was in, and never found it again. This was it is nice and safe on my laptop, with no backups, and no hardcopy, and generally no proof that it ever existed if anything goes wrong {e:laugh)

Wow this is a long entry! Don't get your hopes up just yet though- I finished yet. Not far off though *Wink*

When I got back, one of the first things I did, of course, was come and check WDC. And look what I found!

Yay! I got it in the Blog Ring Party *Delight* It did make me laugh a little though, to see the email telling me I had recieved a blogging merit badge, surrounded by a tonne of reminders to update my blog! lol, I should have turned that off before I went away.

Now, I think I am finally done... I missed not being able to update my blog though! And not being able to go and read everyone else's blogs... okay, I am going to stop typing now... honest....

I can't believe I've missed another two days' blogging! I do have a kind of excuse this time though.

On Tuesday one of my best friends unexpectedly phoned up and invited me around to her house to drink and watch films- it's the last chance we'll get to meet up before we both go off to different universities, so I went. I hadn't been expecting to go out, so I hadn't blogged earlier in the day, and my friend didn't give me much warning so I didn't have time to after I found out.

Yesterday's excuse isn't quite so good- I was just too tired/hungover from watching films and drinking until three or four in the morning the night before. The problem is, it was such a last minute arrangement that we didn't discuss who was buying what to drink. So I brought a big bottle of champagne that I had from passing my exams, and it turned out that she'd already bought a huge bottle of white wine. So... we drank both, just between the two of us, along with a couple of shots of apple sours because she'd brought that too and I hadn't tried it before. Still, it was good fun, even though I only got three hours sleep because the floor in her house is uncomfortable- and she fell asleep leaving a DVD on, and I don't know how to turn off her DVD player (I'm useless with these things).

That was okay, until the DVD finished, and it went to the into bit which kept repeating the same phrases over and over again- for about half an hour or more, because whenever I tried to wake her up to turn it off/tell me which of the many boxes it was so I could turn it off, she just muttered 'yeah, the TV still on isn't it?' and fell asleep again. But then, she was quite drunk I think, so that's not surprising.

I haven't done anything about catching up on my reading either- I couldn't not read The Black Magician Trilogy any longer, so I dropped The Gift half-way though to start re-reading the first book of the trilogy. But reading the trilogy won't take long, because they're the sort of books that are impossible to put down. I only started it last night, and I'm most of the way through the first one already (and being fantasy, they aren't small books- although also not ridiculously huge).

But- I've found out something wonderful! I was randomly googling things to do with the trilogy, and I found an official website that I'd missed before- in which the author talked about plans to write both a prequel to the trilogy, and a whole sequel trilogy! They aren't meant to be out for a few years (she hasn't actually written them yet) but at least there are plans!

And now I am going to stop this abnormally long entry (call it three entries since I missed the last two!) and go catch up on reading other people's blogs!
