My blog with multiple titles of a dubious nature. |

~~~~~~~~~~ Now, down to the focus of my blog. *ponders and wrinkles brow* There is none. I plan on talking about anything and everything that is wierd and happens to cross my mind at the time. Some moments may seem pretty sane, but they will quickly be interrupted by things much less normal, things that may make you cringe, clamp your jaw tight and make sure your belt buckle is still cinched. Anyway, on with the ... ramblings. |
My brother stopped over today so we could schedule what events we wanted to play in at the Origins Gaming Convention this summer. I think we have it all nailed down to four roleplaying events and two miniatures events, though we will probably lurk around the Steve Jackson Games area for a potential pickup game of Munchkin. The roleplaying games we want to get in on are: GURPS: Firefly - a rpg game version of the TV series Call of Cthulhu - a horror rpg game I have not played in ages Star Frontiers - a sci-fi rpg I have not played since the early 80's Spycraft - an espionage rpg that sounded like fun The miniatures games we are playing are: D&D Miniatures - a D&D based game where we get to take home the miniatures we defeat HeroClix: MechWarrior - a miniatures game of battles between massive mechanical robots Well, those are the ones that seem to fit our schedule for attending two of the convention's days. We just need to schedule them when scheduling actually begins. It's a good thing I get notices of things like that in my e-mail so I can schedule them the moment they are open, from work. I also booked our reservations today for the two nights at a local hotel. So, all in all, we are booked and ready to go. By the way, here is a link to the convention's web site: http://www.originsgames.com I am such a geek! |
There is something that has always irritated me about this site. Well, it's not really something about the site that irritates me but something about memmbers that do so. When a site his a membership plan and you have to sign up, even at the free level, you usually have to agree to certain things, primarilly a set of site rules of conduct. So, this seems to be the crutch of the irritation I have. Why would someone knowingly sign up for a site with rules they see as unfair and intend not to follow? When you sign up you agree to abode by all the rules set forth. It would be nice just to see those who have signed up not rant about something they agreed to in the first place. Now, I do know that nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes with regard to rules, but when being informed of the slip up that person should take the correction into consideration, say thank you and learn from what happened. They should not gripe that the rules should be changed because they think they should have been the exception to them. I guess it just comes down to this. If you don't like the rules in the first place, don't apply for membership. ... There may actually be good reason for those rules. ... And for the sake of all that is living, don't ever sign up with the express intent to teach someone a lesson about fair rules practices! That only makes you look like a moron and insults the other members of the site. |
I heard an amazing poem on the radio this morning and since I know where the web page is for the program that aired it, here it is. I hope you enjoy it and take time to check out the radio program's web site. http://www.writersalmanac.org "Man Writes Poem" by Jay Leeming, from Dynamite on a China Plate. © The Backwaters Press. Man Writes Poem This just in a man has begun writing a poem in a small room in Brooklyn. His curtains are apparently blowing in the breeze. We go now to our man Harry on the scene, what's the story down there Harry? "Well Chuck he has begun the second stanza and seems to be doing fine, he's using a blue pen, most poets these days use blue or black ink so blue is a fine choice. His curtains are indeed blowing in a breeze of some kind and what's more his radiator is 'whistling' somewhat. No metaphors have been written yet, but I'm sure he's rummaging around down there in the tin cans of his soul and will turn up something for us soon. Hang on—just breaking news here Chuck, there are 'birds singing' outside his window, and a car with a bad muffler has just gone by. Yes ... definitely a confirmation on the singing birds." Excuse me Harry but the poem seems to be taking on a very auditory quality at this point wouldn't you say? "Yes Chuck, you're right, but after years of experience I would hesitate to predict exactly where this poem is going to go. Why I remember being on the scene with Frost in '47, and with Stevens in '53, and if there's one thing about poems these days it's that hang on, something's happening here, he's just compared the curtains to his mother, and he's described the radiator as 'Roaring deep with the red walrus of History.' Now that's a key line, especially appearing here, somewhat late in the poem, when all of the similes are about to go home. In fact he seems a bit knocked out with the effort of writing that line, and who wouldn't be? Looks like ... yes, he's put down his pen and has gone to brush his teeth. Back to you Chuck." Well thanks Harry. Wow, the life of the artist. That's it for now, but we'll keep you informed of more details as they arise. |
It was an amazing time. |
My mouse died this morning while I was in the middle of an image so I had to go shopping for more. For some odd reason I didn't have anymore AA batteries in the house. When I went out I also thought I would swing by the local Check-fil-a for lunch, not sure if they would be open today being that they are a restaurant that closes for regular Sundays and today is Good Friday after all. So, to my surprise they were open. Then I went to Best Buy because I also needed to buy some equipment for work in addition to getting more batteries. And, guess who I ran into there. My brother who works there. He had the day off but had to stop in for something or other and once he found out I needed to get batteries he said he would get them on his discount. Little did I know what his discount would be on batteries. So, now I am here at home with my mouse working with it's two AA batteries, and I have 46 more AA batteries on the kitchen counter. Anybody have toys that need a little extra power? |
Last night sure was stormy around here! We even had pebble sized hail for about fifteen minutes. It made me glad I own a garage now. Anyway, I was dozing on my futon in the family room during the storm and had the radio playing in the background so the pounding on that part of the roof were not so overwhelming. I used to love storms but after last year's problem with a leaky roof they make me a little nervous. Not as much now as right after the leaks, but still a little. While I was laying there I had a strange dream. It was one of those where you doubt which is reality. It wasn't a bad dream though, but the thing is, I never remember dreams I have so maybe that has to do with the fact that I was dozing and not actually sleeping. Well, I was tempted to post it in here also, but it would change the blog rating. So... I think I'll just let you imagine what it was. ... but then, if you ask nicely I may share. |
With responsibility comes great screaming and gnashing of teath!! It is this I have learned at work in the last few weeks. I love my job but with all the chaos going on here I am running in circles withouth hope of ever finding the end. Oh well, such is life. |
