I've been remiss, Since releasing the Boiler Rooms Newsletter last year, I always intended to post the comments I received. Well, here I am in an organisational mood. They'll be in no particular order, just as I find them in my inbox. Submissions are open for the Clockwork Crier #2. In particular, articles on writing steam punk, as alluded to in this first comment, would be gratefully received. Perhaps on tone? "I really enjoyed The Clockwork Crier - many thanks! I'll definitely be joining the Steampunk group. My main suggestion, given that this is a newsletter on the writing.com website, is that the feature article in each issue should be clearly related back to the issue of writing steampunk stories. The feature article in this issue is about a steampunk tabletop gaming system. It is clear to me that playing such a game can be helpful to generating ideas for steampunk stories, but the article itself does not make this link, other than alluding briefly to it in the first couple of paragraphs. I think it would have really increased the relevance of the article if it had ended with a final paragraph that discussed how playing this game can be a creative aid to steampunk writers in helping them to come up with character and plot ideas for future stories. Otherwise, thanks for a really interesting newsletter. I look forward to seeing more of them! Cheers, Patrick. PeeJay ---

"f I follow you correctly then you are talking Twilight Zone type stuff here right? I was not familiar with the term "steampunk" until tonight. Of course I am sure there are going to be genres that I will encounter on here that I will not be familiar with. I write mainly poetry and short stories. Writing is such a widely diversified field now. Thank you for teaching an old dog something Chris Breva "I enjoyed reading this article. I often thought that Steam Punk was a thing of the 'naughties' and did not realise it's more fuller history. It has inspired me to research more into the whole culture. Who knows, it may even inspire me to write a story or two. thehubster" "This is a great newbie intro to Steampunk. I am just racking my brain trying to find some hint as to WHERE the term "Steampunk" came from. How was it developed and named? More so, how was it named? Then you threw "Dieselpunk" in the mix and I'm all confused. Is it just past fantasy/sci-fi vs. future fantasy/sci-fi? Interesting. A*Monaing*Faith
"There is so much information on this page. I love that you have so many links to check out. The title drew me into the words. I really think that I will take the time soon to follow every link. You brought my attention to your words, and I was visiting your world. Thank you for sharing this with us. Ida. Ida_Matilda_Wright Help "This is something new to me. I am fifty-three years old, and I have been out of circulation for a while. This sounds like it could be a great new genre for young people, but I don't know how it would work for me, seeing as how I am unfamiliar with so many aspects of this discipline. You did a good job of explaning what steampunk is. inkerod" "This was a unique use of writing.com. I liked it. As a newsletter for writing.com this is the best I have seen...As a standalone newsletter it could use some graphics and formatting... How about some flash fiction or excerpt from a story like a teaser,,, Alex Griffin
"In the lead article "Just What is Steam Punk? Editorial Welcome by Thundersbear", the author states, "But I’m not here to give you a lecture on the definition of Steam Punk." Then what, if anything, is the point of the editorial? The life of elephants around the equator? The rest of the editorial is good - why did this cliche escape the editor? wlemery "I think this is a great idea! i love the concept of a Steam Punk newsletter! (in case you didn't notice by my first sentence, this is my first time reading an issue of this newsletter) even though i did know the Steam Punk style, I still learned a lot! have you done a review on the Steam Punk Video Game "Dishonored" yet? if not, you certainly should! I am debating whether i should get it for my boyfriend or not... chantezj18" "Very informative! Lily Kingsten
"I like in particular your didactuve introduction “Steampunk is a genre and a subculture that's all about a past that wasn't. We feel free to reinvent that past however we see fit " "Steampunk is a form of speculative fiction that deals primarily in anachronism and alternative universes. It’s roots lie in adventure, romance, and re-imaginative technology." you would have added that this type of fiction is out to cure the ills of battered history, much of history is battered, this type of fiction will really cure them , st.ifa "Wow great piece. I never had an idea about this genre. It seems quite exciting, and might inspire me to write using this genre. I think I should some steam punk stories or maybe novels to get the jist of it. I still can't understand it completely, ulternate universes, clocks, victorian eras? i should read the stories featured here. riham_7066" "First Thoughts: This is an educational newsletter. The first article answered some of my questions about SteamPunk. It also aroused my curiosity about this genre. My favorite: I like the graphic at the beginning of this newsletter because it expresses the essence of the newsletter and of the genre. Final Thoughts: This is a well-planned and educational newsletter. Write on. Prosperous Snow celebrating
"This would fit me, perfectly. I am, forever, envisioning what could be, or could have been. In fact, I find that Steampunk is quite relaxing, or would be, if reality would stop biting me in the butt! I like the concept, I am onboard until the end. If I can find the time I want to contribute. kiddewees" "Dear Thundersbeard. I am sight impaired. As such I can tell you that strikingly few individuals have 20/20 vision. Even the best story will go unread for this reason. if the reader has to strain his/her eyes or squint to see the words, they will stop reading. Please enlarge the font on your piece. The title intrigued me. I want to read more of your newsletter. LJ. LJB "I'm Tina and part of "WDC Power Reviewers Group" and dropping in to do a quick review. Please consider that all suggestion are based on my opinion and may be different from another reviewer. I hope that my suggestion can help improve your work but it offends you please disregard any suggestions. Thank you for letting me review your item. I like how the format of news article presents to the readers. It was layed out neatly and look professional. Also, the added links, video, and resources were presented with item. Suggestion (none). The difination of Steam Punk was well represented. The reading was understanding and the editoral looked nice. Tina M. Courtney
"Great inaugural issue, folks! Wide range of topics by knowlegeable writers, and not even all of the big newsletters can claim that. I'm only going to claim a few of your GPs because that isn't what I'm here for. Rather, I have this site - http://steampunkbyty.blogger.com - where I post my own stuff, but in the sidebar I have a news feed that collects recent steampunk-related articles from around the web, mostly blogs and newspapers, and I just wanted to say, feel free to delve into it whenever you need a little extra material; or any time at all, for that matter. It's all information your membership might find enjoyable, and dare I say, enlightening. An excellent start, mon amis. I just hope you can continue to live up to this fine beginning! - The Navigator {user:jack-tyler}" "I had no idea of this... I am very much interested in what I read. I never even heard the word. I learned a lot from this read. It is very informative and well put together. It was like I was taking an online class in it :) Good work... It took me quite a while to get through it all but never the less it was full of info I was not aware of. I don't usually read things of this nature but I was intrigued... southerngrace "This is so long and it got me bored but, but! Every time I did, the next sentence or paragraph, as I read through my eyes, would suddenly be interesting and I don't know why but, but it kept me reading and good job. I never knew newsletters would be fun to read. Lollipop
"This is quite informative and I prefer reading fiction since I do write in that particular genre but to keep me reading a newsletter full of facts -whoa. You must be real good. And it's interesting to me because it's very different from what I mostly read about. I also like how people answer the questions of other people. DominantMind "An interesting and informative newsletter. I would love to write a steampunk based story, but have always been nervous. The information and links to other writers here gives me a basis from which to start. An excellent introduction to steampunk, simple and direct offering inspiration to newcomers to the genre. tollykit" "I am a lover of SteamPunk, and this newsletter captured and held my interest. It elicited both excitement and curiosity. I am looking forward to the next issue, mainly to see what happens next with Clangor & Hiss, Steam Punk Detectives. The writing of the newsletter is overall very strong, and the love of the genre/lifestyle that the contributors feel is quite apparent. Well done! Rambling_Rose "Steampunk is fascinating. This will likely go a long way to inspire diabolical minds to write the essence of the fantastique in the fashion of rivets bursting away as the boiler pressure increases because the relief valve is stuck or the snifter failed to deliver the energy depleted water. Many despise the idea of the "punk." Steampunk tends to bedazzle some of the bigotry that would disparage those who simply want a new wave of chaaracters with whom to identify. I'd like to see this become a front page link with a sticky... well maybe a sticky valve. Dr. C. Dr. Charbonneau

| I defy any of you regular guild members to read these comments and not feel like contributing to the making of another newsletter. I am not a founder of this group, but you who are founders, you should feel very proud of yourselves for what you have created with the Boiler Room. It is very special, not just in my eyes, but others eyes as well. ---
