BLACK HOLES AND MAGIC SOULS Welcome to the Black Holes and Magic Souls contest! We – hopefully the same as you – love science fiction and fantasy. So show us what you can do when you let your imagination run wild! The genre (science fiction or fantasy) will alternate round-to-round, and you can see what the current round’s genre is along with the prompt below in the Details section. THIS ROUND'S DEADLINE: Friday, November 9th at 11:59 PM (Writing.com time) Rules: 1. Make sure to keep within the prompt and genre. If you have any questions about your particular idea, don’t hesitate to send us an email. We’re friendly (although there was this one time…but we don’t talk about that). 2. Submit all entries in Bitem format. This is quite straightforward. In your submission message, just put the following text: {bitem:<item ID>}. Replace the <item ID> tag with your item’s ID, which can be found at the top of the item’s page. 3. Entries must be written newly for this contest. No old work, please! 4. Only one entry per person. 5. Entries up to and including 18+ will be accepted, but no erotica. Unnecessary gore is also frowned upon. Graphic descriptions – if necessary – should add to the story, not exist for their own sake. If you have a question as to whether or not your entry is appropriate, just let us know and we’ll take a look. 6. No word count limits are in place; however do try to keep your work to a reasonable length. As this is a fantasy and science fiction contest we understand that there will be a need to explain the world you’ve created, but please don’t overdo it. We want to read stories, not textbooks with action sequences. 7. You can still edit your entry even after you submit it, as long as it's before the deadline. Prizes! 1st Place: Awardicon and 5 000 GPs 2nd Place: Awardicon and 3 000 GPs 3rd Place: Awardicon and 1 000 GPs Honorable Mentions may be awarded as well, depending on the number of entrants. Prizes may change based on number of entrants and donations. Details for this Round: Genre: Science Fiction Prompt: With Halloween just around the corner, let's go with it and add a Halloween twist to the next prompt! This round, write a science fiction story where Halloween (or a Halloween-ish theme) is a major element. The story doesn't have to be horror (or even scary at all), but there should be some sort of Halloween-ish element. Both sci-fi and Halloween are key parts of this prompt, so make sure your story includes both. The Judges Milo   Eileen Secret So get writing!
