A group of travelers rode onto to my land one man rode forward and standing on my porch I addressed him. “Greetings stranger.” As I eyed the man in front of me, who now seemed something less than strange, there was a familiarity to his features as he spoke but I could not figure it out. I decided to let it rest. It will come to me when the time presents itself but for now he has questions.
So what brings you here stranger?
I've come along way but to be honest with you sir, I've gone off course and don't know where I am. My men I and are running low on provisions and would be very gracious for anything you could spare.
Well I do not have much, but Ill give you what I can. Where are you heading that you have since gone off course?
We are seeking the area of the three rivers. We are homesteaders. There is available land beyond the valley of the rivers and we are hoping to make claims.
Where are you from? I can help you get back on course. You've got about three full days travel until you reach the valley, but I can get you there. For tonight why don't you and your men set up camp on my land. I have food for your cook Bring you horses.
Much obliged sir. I thank you for your kind hospitality. Then he led his horse on as the rest followed. Finally that last horse past and I now realized where I saw this man before. The brand on the horse. It was from the ranch of Travis “ Wildeyes” Hitchcock. This was no homesteader. This was the man on the poster in the post office. Number one most wanted!
