Back in my more active reviewing days, I actually tended to be oblivious to prompts. { e:blush} As a result, I would treat the piece like any other. If the contest has already ended, treating the piecenlike any other can allow reviewers to suggest ways to iron out the wrinkles prompts can put into a work.
Likewise, depending on the prompt, it can be incorporated in a nearly seamless fashion. I once participated in a prompt contest where there were five sentences for the prompt. It was pretty easy to blend them into the larger story. There are even similarly brief prompts (like single words) that can be folded into a story without warping the structure too much.
