I try to review everything using the same criteria. Does it contain obvious spelling errors or misuse of the English language for example. However, if I can see that English is not their native language, I will often give those type of errors more leniency than normal. I can ascertain their location, and their native tongue, IF their Bio tab is completed, which is why that small part of your port is so important, in my opinion. When I read the story, does it make sense? Even if it's just an opening chapter, does it make sense? Poetry, I love it, but again, it has to make sense. In writing a review, I always try to leave positive comments, as well as negative comments, if warranted. Prompts are an excellent way to get inspired if you suffer from writer's block, as I have for over two years now. As you mentioned, prompts/contests do expire. At that point, it may be time to edit the story or poem, IF the writer wants to do that. If I have suggestions about it, I always try to say something like , 'I have the following suggestions for you, should you decide to edit this." I'm no English expert, anyone who knows me, knows that. (It was my worst subject all through school, B's; but I struggled to get those). I don't tell them I'm not an English expert, nor do I say something along the lines or "Use what you find helpful, discard the rest." I figure they will do that automatically. |
