Chapter #7

Liz says no

    by: Zendle Author IconMail Icon
"No. We aren't going."
Veronica's eyes flashed briefly with anger, how dare Liz speak to her that way.
"You can't make us stay here Elizabeth." Veronica hissed, venom pouring out of her words. "What if myself, Alison, and whoever else wanted to go to this circus? What then?"
Liz fought back a smile, she knew Veronica was desperate now, she knew this because it was well known that Veronica disliked Alison (and pretty much everybody else for that matter), so suddenly supporting her was an obvious grasp at a power play.
"If you want to go." Liz said, crossing her arms. "Then go. I won't stop you."
Veronica was taken off guard by that statement, as was everybody else.
"Of course...you do this knowing full well that a circus in the middle of the woods, at midnight, which we found out about through an anonymous flyer is on obvious trap."
The air seemed to go out of Alison's sails at that, being drunk she hadn't thought about that.
"But even if it wasn't, even if this whole thing was legit and fun and what have you...the second you exist my house will represent you leaving us. All of us."
Now Veronica was confused. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, anybody who goes to that stupid circus is out of the group. Your names will never be spoken by be, you will not be invited to pizza and slumber parties, and I will never associate with any of you again."
Liz scanned the room after saying this, looking into each girls face by turn. Jacky was guarded, Pepper and Ayita were looking at the floor, their status within the group was low so being excommunicated would ruin their social lives, as it could with Alison although she still seemed to drunk to realize this. Carmen just seemed confused, and Crystal was in the far back of the group, trying not to be noticed.
Liz then looked directly into the eyes of Veronica. What Liz had said wasn't a bluff, but it could still backfire. If Veronica convinced enough of the grills to follow her then she would become the new group leader, which meant she was the queen Bee of their social circle, which in turn meant that Liz would not be as popular. And that is something Liz did not want to happen.
Veronicas mind meanwhile was going through something similar. Even if she couldn't get enough girls to follow her out of the group, the act of defiance would stick with them and teach the other girls that they could stand up to Liz. Veronica was patient and was perfectly willing to let Liz's clique fall apart around her. But at the same time she could end up outcasted and humiliated.
After several minutes of silence Veronica finally took action and decided...
