How did Konga understand English?

Why was this woman who betrayed him singing Viva la Vida by Coldplay?

Wait, how did Konga know what Coldplay was?

The former king knew that he held domain over an island of primitive humans and monsters, but all other information that he'd retained only left him with more questions. Was he born on his island? Did he and the woman talk at all during their time together? Oh God, what did he do with previous sacrifices? Was he a king or a monster? Was he human? Was he an experiment?

The lights were getting brighter, the walls were getting smaller.

Panic was settling in.
