It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.~~Arthur Conan Doyle
Never neglect the little things. Never skimp on that extra effort, that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best that you can do. It does not matter what others think, it is of prime importance, however, what you think about you. You can never do your best, which should always be your trademark, if you are cutting corners and shirking responsibilities. You are special. Act it. Never neglect the little things.~~Og Mandino
(Og Mandino is one of my most favorite writers ever!)
Delight in the little things.~~Rudyard Kipling
The little things? The little moments? They aren't little.~~Jon Kabat-Zinn
I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble.~~Helen Keller
Today, I count the small things that never asked to be counted, and realize- they’ve been keeping score
for me all along.~~krista on WDC

Little things. Little moments. The often overlooked, easily forgotten: These are the things that make up a life worth living. The daisy he brought you from an evening walk with the dog. Hugs from the two-year-old, sticky fingers and all. The dog flopped next to you on the couch with her head in your lap. The note left on a keyboard reminding you of that thing you'd forgotten, but that you asked him to remind you about. The phone call from a daughter because she knows you appreciate a call more than a text. Weekend donuts. Being brought a cup of coffee just when the thought hits your mind that you want one. The little things? These are what add up to the bigger things, to everything!
Poetry, being the versatile entity that it is, needn't just be for the massive, the earthshattering, or the profound. The simple things, the little moments, these are special and should be celebrated as well. Absolutely worthy of the time and effort that goes into a poem. It can remind one of the small, but important, moments that all too often can get lost in the busy shuffle of days.
How many times have you heard someone complain because there is no time to do this or that, no time to relax, or no time to just be. Back when I was a little girl, my grandmother told me not to count sheep before bed. Instead, I should fall asleep thinking of those little things I might have done for others, or that they had done for me. I still, some 65-ish years later, do this. A nice way to reflect on my day, make me smile, and let me feel all cozy.
These are the things to write about. Appreciation and being aware are things always worthy of a poem!
I was just talking to my husband, reading him this newsletter as I often do. 'Sounds done,' he says. "Not long enough, though,' I reply. 'Why not? You made good points, it's concise, and well-written. Doesn't need any padding. I suppose you could double-space it to make it seem longer, but ...' I roll my eyes at him. He grins back. We laugh. He's right.
