And We're Off!
It's the season of commercialism and craziness, isn't it? I find the demands of my time become a little too much, and sometimes I need a rot day to recuperate and recharge. There's nothing better than a hot cup of tea and some relaxation. I don't have the stamina to charge through the holidays at full force.
I'm starting to plan now, deciding which activities and contests I want to participate in, I sort out what needs to be done each day and list them to stay organized. The secret to enjoying everything is to be selective and balance writing time with other parts of life.
Now is the time to build up gift points, the messenger system has frostie bots awarding gift points, the review system is generous and contest prizes are large in some cases. And if you have your eye on something in the WDC shop, make sure your physical address is listed in your account.
If you're running a contest or activity, be sure to have a team to help you and that they're ready to take over if something happens. Snow storms and internet outages happen at the most inconvenient times. Most people can find a little time to help, don't be afraid to ask.
Most of all, enjoy yourself! And as always, Write On!

Excerpt: Princess Ginger was born on Christmas Day seventeen years ago. Her parents named her Ginger because they loved food cooked with Ginger and the smell of Ginger. The name sounded sweet. Princess Ginger was sweet and was kind to everyone. She was the only child of the King and Queen. She loved animals and her life at the castle.
| | The Snowman (E) A small boy, an orphanage, and a talking snowman all mixed together for Christmas morning. #1045394 by W.D.Wilcox |
Excerpt: A blossom of hot breath floated across the upstairs orphanage window. A small, pale finger etched a holiday scene across the glass, as intense blue eyes focused on the snow that lay thick upon the yard below. The boy imagined he was looking at himself outside playing in the snow, making a snowman. His skinny chest rose and fell in a frustrated sigh. Wiping the fog markings from the glass, thin lips pinched together in a tearful pout, he watched a car drive by splashing dirty snow across the six-foot wrought-iron fence that surrounded the dilapidated old orphanage.
You know the story, let's see if you can fill the lines, as it were.

This month's question: Do you have big plans for the holidays?? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback!
Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 22, 2025)" question: What are some unique prizes you can offer?
S🤦♂️ : On another site, first prize for a contest was a copy of the contest organiser's book (as an e-book). I won and it was a very cool prize to receive because it was a great book.
Schnujo :
In the celebrations I do for the Giant January Celebration for those who have done every month of "The Contest Challenge" since it started in February 2018, I've done nearly everything you've listed in the newsletter above except I haven't written them poems or given them pics of anything. I also haven't volunteered for their activities, but I do use their activities to reward the others and I often run their contests in my challenge the next year.
You mentioned gift points. Aside from everyone getting 500,000 GPs, I've also allowed them to donate 100k to an activity of their choice.
You mentioned reviews. Aside from getting reviews from a reviewer who has been nominated for or won Best Reviewer in "The Quills" , I've given the celebrants review credits.
You mentioned shop items. I've given them an allotted amount to spend in the WdC Shop and allowed them to use it towards anything they wanted, even if they wanted to put more towards a higher priced item.
Of course, they get lots of merit badges, and occasionally physical ones, but some years they've even been allowed to commission their own exclusive merit badge! (Costs me 500k GPs per person. I only ask that I get one.)
I often buy them raffle tickets or cNotes from the activities or shops of the other celebrants.
I've also bought them costumicons.
Tannus : This depends on the game. Some winners get a chicken dinner.
Friendly Neighborhood Derg : A good old fashioned massive derg hug.
N.A Miller : "How about VD?" - James Best (Cully, HOOPER - 1979)
Dawn Embers : I usually offer reviews, gift points or merit badges. However, I did do a special prize just for entering during certain times in a long deadline contest. I sent one person a mug and another person got a WDC pin. I wasn't sure if it would work so thought I would give it a try
Thanks to everyone for your responses! L~
