Once, I could shrink so small
I could ride on the back of my dragonfly,
flitting here and there, as if sewing a quilt of wildflowers.
Once we wandered a jungle of wide-bladed grasses
and dandelion fluff, searching
out the blue elves who lived under the old mushroom.
Once, we rode into battle, my dragon and I,
using hawthorn twigs as lances and
we freed the princess from the Castle on the Rock.
Once, I could shrink so small--but then I grew
older and up. I turned into a giant, able to hold
a dragonfly on my finger.
Once upon a time, long, long ago
I held magic in my hands, and I was free.
Tis but a mystery that I shall ever seek to solve.
