Refuge

This road I’m on is rough – careening down a steady decline
at times it feels like I’m sinking
but if I reach up ... I know your hand will clasp mine.

Can’t I go around this hurdle – there must be an easier way.
You whisper “we’ll go through it together
and I won’t lead you astray.”

As I wait in this valley of pain, I see you hovering overhead.
sheltering me in your protection
so on you I will depend.

I know you are here with me – right by my side
no matter what tomorrow brings
under your wings I can safely abide.
