Pain

I stretch my hand towards the rough edged stone
A name is carved that holds so many memories alone
My fingers trace the letters of life from the past
Blissful days that were too good to last
I close my eyes and clench my hand tight
The world goes back in time, too fast for sight
I reluctantly open my eyes, dreading what I will find
For that fateful day is still etched into my mind
It is her hand in mine that I hold
I shiver because her hand is limp and cold
Her breath is ragad and I know she will not live much more
Then she slips from my path, through the dark door
Tears stream down my face, my other half lost forever
But her face I will never forget, ever
I clutch my own hand, my voice singing loud and clear
And then I am back, tracing the word that brings memories so near
Tears are still falling and my voice echoes in the air
For still in my young heart, I know that I am back there
I am still holding onto a past that I never will depart
Tortured in body tormented at heart
