How Do I Remember?
This is a poem for my Uncle Jerry who recently died. He is the reason I write & sing.

How Do I Remember

How do I remember our times
When everybody says
Time seems to fly by

How do I remember your blessed smile
How do I remember our memories
That made our times worth while

How do I remember all those witty things you said
No matter what came out of your mouth
We never let it go to our head

How do I remember how inspirational you were?
Some of the things you said to me
Are already a blur

How do I remember your awesome voice?
Oh wait I have your record,
I’ll always have that choice!

Will I remember you as I did before?
Or will I remember you as I saw you
As I looked back walking out that door?

I couldn’t say goodbye, for I know you’re with me
You’ll never leave I feel you here
Direct me as I go, if I’m blind let me see

As I said my final goodbye
I said something
Before I cried

I said you’ll always be a ringing in my heart
Never leave me, I love you
That was the hard part

I looked back ‘til I could see you no longer
Slowly the casket shrunk
And that made it harder

I still feel you here
So whenever I feel alone I’ll know
That a breeze means you’re near

How do I remember all these things?
I’ll just have to make due
With what still remains.
