She meets the man of her dreams when he rescues her. 300-word flash

Rainy Evening Illusion

“It was late for a walk in the rain , but I was too restless. I garbed myself appropriately, since I’m not a complete fool. Rubber boots, raincoat and hat, and for good measure, an umbrella.”
My visitor offered me a sip of water. I continued my story.
“I was loving it, since I am one of those quirky individuals who love to walk in the rain, alone or with a loved one. There is just something about the rain I can’t resist.”

“I have no idea how long I walked or what direction I took, I seemed to enter a dream , as I often do when I do that particular activity.”
I paused again, was offered more water, then I stared at the person who was offering it. A handsome man of my age.

“Do I know you, sir?” I faltered. He smiled as he shook his head no.
“I’m Meg,” I said, offering my hand.
“David,” the man said as he took my hand and held it.
“Where did we meet?” I asked.
“We didn’t, I found you collapsed in a puddle, rambling incoherently. I hailed a cab and got us both to this hospital.”
“That’s never happened to me before! Did I fall? How long was I laying there?”
“To be honest I have no idea! You were soaked through under your rainwear and shivering.”

“Thank you, David! You are my hero! You must let me pay you for the cab at least.”
“Nonsense, I saw distress and I acted. You sprained your ankle and have a touch of pleurisy.”
“I may need a ride home,” I said
“What kind of hero would I be if I didn’t offer to take you home on discharge?”
It was love at first sight, at least for me.
