All Of You; Life Is Wife

13 years of marriage strained by a sudden cold silence. The vows will be tested.

Thirteen years.
It feels like such a long time,
yet not nearly enough against a lifetime.
All our moments spent together,
through every shared success,
through every quiet hardship.
All of me, I vowed to give you;
all of you, you vowed to give me.

And God knows my love for you,
it remains the same as always.
But a strange feeling haunts our home,
a small, cold distance between us;
we are strangers in our own lives.
The words shared grow fewer now,
as each difficult day passes.
I hear your complaint constantly:
"You're like a stranger to me. What happened?"

I long to answer you openly,
just as I always used to do—
my inner monkey taking charge,
spinning every quick, kind joke.
But a wall of silence stands in me,
it stops every positive word.
My awful silence leaves you so lost,
making you feel you have failed me.

My sweet lady, do you recall that day?
Our very first date, I confessed this much:
"I pray to God, I am a loner,
so please make me stronger."
Some chapters I can never share—
days of shadow and deep loneliness,
still cloud my sight of the world.
Hardships I faced entirely alone,
times I felt lower than an animal.
On our second date, you asked me,
"Why do you write so much?" I said then,
"Just to escape the thoughts in my head."

Perhaps you didn't think much of it then.
We never had problems until now.
Despite this distance, please remember:
I still hold our vows close to my heart.
"All of me, I will give to you,"
words that I still live by to this day.
But for all your deep questions—
What is wrong? Why won't you speak?—
Well, baby, the only true answer
