Down The River Of Time
__________________________________________________

I used to sprint and run with time
Speeding and accelerating from past to the future
Sure and straight as an arrow from a bowstring
In seconds, minutes, hours, years
In bondage, in captivity, in humiliating slavery
Afraid of strands of grey and the inevitable end
The mechanical chronology, the unchanging march of time

By chance encounter we met and time stood still
A century passed while we gazed
Immersed in that single moment
A nano second that became an eternity
I felt your heartbeat, paused to watch a running stream
Listen to the wind blowing through the forests
Follow the sun across the skies

Reborn, I opened my eyes and felt
The growth of seeds, the quiet ageing of trees
The warming of the earth and seasons
The patterns of stars across the night sky
Knew, knew when to plant and when to harvest
When to change with the tempo and the rhythms
Like water in a rock-strewn mountain stream

Bathed in your radiance I saw light, I saw
Time shrink, time expand, time curl and wink
Time stand still and slip forward again
From the fast vibration and quantum pulse of an atom
To the resonant rhythms of the expanding cosmos
Entwined with flashes of light and darkness
We danced, you and I, in chaos and synchrony

No more in boredom does lazy time drag on
No more the putrefaction, isolation and living death
Neither milestones nor battles remembered
Nor monuments, tombstones, the death of kings
Only bonding, nurturing, the glory of evolving
No more the abstractions of clinical chronology
No more lost, afraid, a captive and a slave

I smelled an aroma, heard a lullaby, remembered
The taste of a meal cooked in my mother’s hand
Travelled in time, waiting hoping
Amid ruins of all the rest I found, a shimmering dejavu
Through the richness of layers and treasures of humanity
Through loves, friendships and the human touch
Here there everywhere on currents, eddies and vortices of Time

While I feel my heartbeat, you stand still for a century
In beauty you create aeons in a minute
Hours are seconds, a minute takes years
Time flows to a vibrant dance
The dance of the moon and the dance of the sun
The jazz and the drums of the cosmic dance
Standing in the here and now, future past, striving on

Free as the shooting star, energized in Time
Free as the galaxies, supernova, fossils on rock
Free as the redshift expanding with the universe
Free as the radio waves carrying the colors of stars
Free as the clouds that form and dissipate
Free to act , free to decide, free to feel freedom inside
Free to navigate the river of Time, a bosom to find rest.
