A New Year Commences
A new year commences -
Bright and shiny with promise.
Backpacks full of fresh pens and notebooks,
Sharpened pencils ready to draw and colour.
Children scrubbed squeaky clean,
With haircuts short and fine;
New clothes are on full display.
And everyone's all abuzz with greetings:
         Hello how was your summer?
                   Good to see you again.
                             Welcome to your new class.

We are all ready to take on new adventures;
To learn and grow and sparkle.
Each person, a building block, a piece of the puzzle
That makes up the community in a classroom and a school;
Where minds come together to define
What is important and how we can all get along.
Where we can learn from each other
And share our experiences in a safe place;
Knowing we all matter.
I love it when a new year commences.
