Wedding Sorrow
It is easy for you to speak of happiness.
You have the surety of the touch of his lips.
You can't even imagine another's sadness,
Or how some loves come in tinier sips.
I was once meant to be a bride like you
My thoughts were filled with guests and plans
And white-gowned promises that matched "I do."
How I slaved to get ready for those wedding banns!
But love grows frost when not nurtured enough.
My cold-hearted beau disappeared with another.
He left me amid all that fancy white stuff,
In the arms of my father and mother.
I purged my tears, and grew bitter in rage,
But it takes scant wisdom to discern the facts;
The fault was mine; I wired my cage,
ignoring his love as he slipped through the cracks
Sorrow grows cold as life drags on.
Yet, there are lessons I painfully learned,
That wedding plans that go on and on
Should lie second to the love you've earned.
