Little Lorena. Plait the Fog.
Little Lorena

The next Lorena lives next to you.
She's blond or brunette
and plays with Barbie and dissects Ken.
She's a wannabe monster to men.

Yet, her quietness does not disturb
and her withdrawn eyes remain ignored.
She's a good girl no one notices,
a double zero figure dressed like a doll.

But her 4 year old fingers abuse what makes
Ken, Ken. She's a menace to all men.

Note: I started to write a poem about how Hitler needed more hugs when he was 4, but wrote the above instead. All "monsters" were 4 once. Next time you see one, take notice and when appropriate give them a hug. Can't promise, but it might make a difference.

Plait the fog

Plait the fog. Grasp the tendrils.
Water nourishes blood
that runs slow from the chill.
Moist droplets cleanse sweat,
remove dust, allow eyes
to see nothing but grey.
Weave emptiness that strays
through thin thoughts that hum.
Let hands plait the fog.
Let heart beat the drum.

IMAGES:

The 4th: clouds swirling, a whoosh of cool air, rain on the tin roof (a dash to the house), yellow daylilies and the fragrance of wisteria.

Walk home at midnight on the 3rd: the incessant buzz of insects, spikes of gladioli.

THOUGHTS:

90º. This is the weather that withers me.

Kelly's Diner: $6.38 for the Thursday special, liver and onions. The waitress mentioned that the onions were grilled and marinated in the gravy, which was why they weren't so strong. I should've eaten slower. This was my first meal out that I've paid for in a very long time. Kelly's attracts the salt-of-the-earth. I can live with that.

When I left, I was looking at the grain elevator by my house (like the one in Willis, row 3 or Baileyville, row 5). The clouds today look like those in Justin Marable's print of Baldwin (6th row down, on the right):

So much of his artscape of rural Kansas speaks to me. I've literally lived in these places: Baileyville, Oneida ...
