I have dream 1963-2007

I just lost an entire entry, so this is the short version:

44 years ago on August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King mesmerized an audience and all of America with his "I have a dream" speech.

For 15 years (1988-2002) I had picnics on this day to bring people together as a commemoration, in keeping with the vision of Dr. King.

As for the speech:

Yes, it was well delivered and yes, it was meaningful, but the poets among us should look at it with a poets eye! What metaphors did he use? I still remember "hills and molehills of Mississippi". And how did he use the repetition of "I have a dream" to best advantage. Further ... alliteration, rhythm? Yep. Plenty of that. How did these poetic devices help with making this one of the most memorable and easy to memorize American speeches?

And poetry aside ... how many of us have actually internalized many of the ideas? I'm still keeping the dream alive.
