Michaelmas Moon
i have been trying to devise a name and a poem for each full moon that resonates more closely with the climate, and the flora and fauna here in subtropical southwesr Florida.
September's full moon I have designated to be the Michaelmas moon--as the moon is full on the 26th---and Michaelmas is Sept. 29th.
I also wrote "Michaelmas Moon" for my friend Verniece Burman--who's birthday is Sept. 26th. Over Labor Day we visited her and her husband and in Dade City she purchased a cobalt blue gazing ball that inspired the following poem.....Happy Birthday Verniece!
Michaelmas Moon
So much depends upon
a blue gazing ball,
liquid and rain-soaked
reflecting a field
of Michaelmas daisies,
their smiling faces
lifted skyward
to the floating moon.
Through the lace curtains
I can hear distant echoes
of fugues and hosannas
and the bright, piercing sound
of God's cobalt laughter.
