30 Day Blogging Challenge – May 11

I am not seeing a prompt for today – but given this is a 30 day blogging challenge something must be written. So I checked the site to see what is expected for Sundays. This is what it says...

The Sunday News: Provide your thoughts/opinions on a newspaper/magazine article or a radio/television news story from the past week. And if you feel inclined, let loose and blog about your week. Also, feel free to comment on your favorite blog entries from your fellow challengers from the preceding week, though this is not required.

So that said... I am a huge fan of Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday. Today’s interview was with Arianna Huffington. She is the president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post. She is also the author of Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom and Wonder. She credits her mother for putting her on the path to success and encouraging her spiritual growth.

Her mother:
-was in constant giving mode - every moment had the potential to be a giving moment.
-developed an intimacy and empathy with strangers
-reached out to others
-when she gave something she would say "it’s not a trade, darling, it is an offering."
-would do gestures to change the atmosphere - things like taking a box of chocolates into the doctor's office to bring smiles to the nurses faces and improve their day
-believed giving was a way of living for her
-believed in giving and service
-believed giving was not only good for others but also good for ourselves
-told her "don’t miss the moment"
-believed "tea can solve any problem" - slow down and think it through before acting.
-was a magical improvisor

To her daughters she wanted them to:
-know that they could go for their dreams and not worry about failure
-know failure is not the opposite of success; failure is a stepping stone to success.

For Arianna Huffington:
-she wanted to redefine success
-"success is a dance between making it happen and letting it happen"
-she is drawn to the spiritual
-founder of a progressive news blog = Huffington Post
-we are killing ourselves because we are pursuing success to such a degree we are making ourselves ill
-"life is shaped from the inside, out"

The four pillars of Success:
Well-being
-you need your sleep to recharge
-disconnect from technology for certain times of the day

Wisdom
-to give up with no longer works in order to stay sacred.
- could be a grudge, a project,
-focus on what really matters to them
-live our dream not what someone else expects.

Wonder
-have the rhythm of a child

Giving
-give to others unconditional love and attention

-culture is changing so that it is normal to talk about what people do to find peace and well being – it is not seen as so 'weird’ anymore.
-Meditation, prayer, stillness – whatever you call it – it is that place we go to reconnect

-be fully present
Go for your dreams and not worry if you fail
-everything that matters requires your full attention

This is a mishmash of bits I want to make note of....
