A terminal for all blogs coming in or going out. A view into my life. |
Started July 1st 2019 for contests, etc. as other blogs are filling up and have other purposes. I'm starting a new blog because
I'll be linking to
I've started an appendix (I no longer have one personally) to keep track of my Space Cadet journals for Space Blog. It's a work constantly under construction. Mind the mess.
I needed to start a folder for contests as there are so many deadlines and details to remember.

Ramen is a type of noodle and the name of the cat in the Mystery Hostel in ChiaYi. Papaya is a tropical fruit, best eaten in the tropics imho, and the name of the cat at Montana Linda hostel in Orosi. Oda is named after her hostel in Prishtina, Kosovo. Her brother is Odi. Should every hostel have a resident pet? Maybe not, but Eplets Bed & Apple in Solvorn Norway has a ewes and her lambs. I do think senior residencies and nursing homes should have animals. It's amusing watching the interaction between the animal residents and the human guests. Some are coy, some persistent. I'm persistent. And I take photos ... as do many others. Oda and Odi thought every lap was their lap. Papaya would sneak in and sleep with you. Ramen is a grey-and-white munchkin cat (breed) with short legs and a long tail. She either naps or bounces off walls. Quite amusing. Kinda like me. Today I mostly relaxed but went out late to eat and look at glazed tiles ... never found the tile place but saw awesome wood carvings and paintings. Strolled through Hinoki (Japanese houses). Bought more food: stuffed clams, fried squid balls, chocolate and cheese donuts, a sandwich with 'gyro'. That was in addition to the turkey rice, sliced pig ear and soup I had earlier. I didn't have any ramen noodles. |
Should I bother to write a blog entry today? I went to bed late. Just me in the room and only one other guest in the hostel. I ate breakfast, said good-bye to Susanne, then went back to sleep. Got up around noon. I went out for lunch. Decided to have turkey rice again: "Turkey rice and pork liver (Chiayi)" . Lots of laughter. Found masks and snacks. Not much else. I did write a bit of a political entry in my O Pinions! blog: "Issues, Character and Personality" . I will not be alone in the hostel this evening. Time for another coffee! It's 5 p.m. and I'm dozing off. |
“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.” ~ Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go! In response to tah2o after quoting Seuss: Or just fall off a cliff. When I lost everything and was homeless-heavy (2 years) and homeless-lite (2 years) it meant a Great Adjustment. But... here I am in Taiwan. I've become a traveler. So... the places I have been, the places I will go... For those concerned about my travel in Taiwan: I'm monitoring the situation daily. There are more positive cases in Germany than here and Japan now has quite a few. China is really hurting. However, I'm not in China! As for me ... I'm sure the Taiwanese government would take care of me. If I get ill I have to report immediately ... it's against the law to hide this illness. So far there are no random cases here in Taiwan. There has been a recent evacuation from Wuhan but, between mandatory screening and quarantine, no one is hysterical. I'm an emotional-vampire as well as an emotional vampire (hyphens matter). I glean the energy in the room. I steal ideas. I'm also a Vulch. This really helps with writing. I can't think up everything and since most everything has been written about (Romeo and Juliet is an ancient theme) I can only weave my words and experiences into the tapestry of my life and writing. All real-life is fiction anyways. So yes, I will steal your prompts. Might even remember to give you credit, but the words will be mine. |
hahaha ... hahaha ... One minute late because I got distracted. So ... savedmehavingtowritetwoblogs. Got on the wrong train ... no worries. Walked straight to hostel and got a lower bed. I'm happy. Upper isn't too high but no curtains and barely a rail. Susanne from Munich, who I met in Tainan, is here also. We booked the same hostel, even took the same train. We didn't coordinate our trips. Surprise! So more good news. A friend in Costa Rica posted a smiling photo today with his half-leg. He was shot (months ago) and the wound ulcerated so they amputated. He'll get better now. Even more good news. This place has a friendly cat named Ramen. Good news? I'm not dead yet. Well ... I think that's good news! Not so great news. I'm still out-of-sorts. But I have 4 days here to relax. |
It's been a nerve-wracking two days. 1. Difficulty planning next week. The 8th is the problem date. I should post a rant in my travel blog or personal blog. 2. Poetry? I owe Anna-Maria a poem titled "Plum Blossom" and Yi Jie will receive a poem or hybrid poem/prose, "Half-moon-eyes, the color of warmth earth". Akira too. So that needs posting as well, probably in my p-log. 3. I ... will need to post in my persona blog about how staying with young people triggers my sadness ... not here ... too personal. 4. Maybe an essay in my opinion-blog (op-blog?) about how I'm safer here in Taiwan than elsewhere over this coronavirus. 5. I should go to An-ping but will I? I may need to just plan today and catch-up. I've only written 8 postcards so far. 1.308 |
It's midnight. I have been here 6 nights. Tonight it sounds like a herd of elephants moved in in the room above me. I don't understand this... Wonderful visit with new friends... but have I annoyed them. I'm staying one more night. I couldn't make up my mind what I want to do. Too stressful. Walking and more walking. This is good if it doesn't kill me. Today was a day of cake and fish... and more cake and more fish. Guests from France, Argentina, Germany, Estonia... Rachel flew to Hanoi... wish her well. Corona virus has many travelers on edge... me included. Wrote postcard #8. I'm really out of sorts... |
Is the USA prepared to fight the coronavirus? Americans ban flights, demonize Asians, share fake news but are they doing anything? Like... Produce 150 million masks per day. Fine people if they don't report an illness. Provide free care for those diagnosed. Educate the public. Taiwan is doing all this. And by-the-way, Taiwan is not part of China. My flight back is February 21st. It is non-refundable. Will Delta/ANA care enough to reschedule me? When I come back will people avoid me? 2 weeks sitting in my room isn't a great prospect. Getting stuck here doesn't seem great either. Where will I stay? I'm a budget traveler who stays in hostels. So... if the coronavirus doesn't get me, the hysteria now enveloping the American public may end up killing me. 1.290 |
