A terminal for all blogs coming in or going out. A view into my life.
Started July 1st 2019 for contests, etc. as other blogs are filling up and have other purposes.

Ferry boat between Solvorn and Ornes across the Lustrafjord i Sogn og Fjordane.

I'm starting a new blog because
BOOK
L'aura del Campo  (13+)
Online journal capturing the moment and the memory of moments. A meadow meditation.

had over 1,200 entries and that was getting close to full. I don't want to trim it by deletion. I did that once, much to my dismay. Will be used more for poetry.

BOOK
Hoarfrosts from Hell  (GC)
Anything I'm not happy about or that I don't want in my main blog!

is still hidden from the public and will remain so. It's more personal and full of angst. Was used for 30DBC for May 2020 and now used for Blogville.

BOOK
Enga mellom fjella  (13+)
Enga mellom fjella: where from across the meadow, poems sing from mountains and molehills.

was full... until the number of entries was increased. A mixed blog, mostly stories.

I'll be linking to
BOOK
On The Write Path  (13+)

as I need to post there about my travels.

BOOK
O Pinions!  (XGC)
May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

is for my opinions. *Laugh*

BOOK
Nurture your Nature  (13+)
Look around. Let Nature nurture your Soul. I record images I sense and share them here.

was set up for nature observations and musings.

Watt's Gnus  (18+)
On topics and today's gnus. Definitely opinionated. Set to 18+ for a reason.

come out of a need to share interesting stuff I come across. When I was young I did a small newsletter named as such. (or was it column in the newsletter? Been 30 years... I think.)

FOLDER
Flash Fiction  (GC)
Short 300 word, more or less, "stories" .
#2190336 by Kåre Enga in Montana
is where I put my flash fictions. Maybe someday I'll figure it out and have enough good ones to publish. Ratings vary and some are hidden from view.

I've started an appendix (I no longer have one personally) to keep track of my Space Cadet journals for Space Blog. It's a work constantly under construction. Mind the mess.

I needed to start a folder for contests as there are so many deadlines and details to remember.

52 calm cool degrees. 20 AQI. It normally would be a pleasure getting up this fine morning but I feel odd.

Wrote Elisa: In your response you touch on:

Identity

A Break
Options
Experience
Intersectionality

I've written blogs on all of the above; but, perhaps I should focus on one at a time and once more address the issues you raise

Saw friends. Ate.

No, I did not eat my friends.

Seen at YCC re twitter: Brocken Spectre.

A Brocken spectre (German: Brockengespenst), also called Brocken bow, mountain spectre, or spectre of the Brocken is the magnified (and apparently enormous) shadow of an observer cast upon clouds opposite the Sun's direction. The figure's head is often surrounded by the halo-like rings of coloured light forming a glory, which appears opposite the Sun's direction when uniformly-sized water droplets in clouds refract and backscatter sunlight.

The phenomenon can appear on any misty mountainside or cloud bank, even when seen from an airplane, but the frequent fogs and low-altitude accessibility of the Brocken, a peak in the Harz Mountains in Germany, have created a local legend from which the phenomenon draws its name. The Brocken spectre was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780, and has since been recorded often in literature about the region.

56 degrees and clear blue skies at 11:11. If it were always like this...

But it ain't! Got to market early. Got my cherry pastry. Got my yeller watermelon, my Sinful, my Buttercup.

I good.

Time to write my blogville blog and write some contest entries. If not now... never.

YCC: GaleForceWinds > Augustine V "Blog is def going Twilight Zone down below....legs....nails.....blocking.....troll....."

YCC: Wundindy > "My boys & husband were fishing at our camp in Dularge last weekend. Youngest was listening to updates and looked at me with the saddest eyes saying he wished he knew about Ida last week so they could’ve moved some stuff that could hurt the environment. My sweet 10 year old!! I told him “daddy does that every time y’all leave” and his eyes full of hold-back tears and he said “well, I really wish I could’ve just said goodbye just in case”. 💔 "

The dscussion about Ida is nitpicky. Someone is gonna git hit, some is gonna git hurt. If you're in the way... git out!

I do think that there's some bureaucratic insanity in NOLA... but that would not be news.

Prediction. Since everyone else gives their 2 cents. Cat 4 135 mph (tops), weakening. Larger TS windfield than now. MS and AL get rain and storm surge greater than expected as of now. About 100 fatalities. MS is immobilized like it was after K.

MO: there hasn't been enough attention to infrastructure upgrded to hurricane specks. Even the levees were not done properly. The Dutch went to 1,000 year odds after the storm of 1953. The Army Corp of Engineers? Typically American and cost-cutting. Hope and pray that the Nuclear Plant barely above sea-level isn't breached. Very short-sighted and very incompetant. Typically American. Build it fast. Make money. Leave town. Let others pay.

I wrote Sum1: "Is there any way that someone (who has the time) could look for newbies, especially black cases that post in a blog occasionally and entice them to join? Like contact them directly. "Hey, I see you have a blog and posted a few entries. Wanna join us?"

I don't think the Newsfeed is going to do it. Not every reads it and frankly, if it doesn't seem to pertain to them... Remember this site is full of introverts who even in the safety of their caves, hiding behind avatars, are still afraid (and yes I think fear is a factor) to post anything real or dare share an opinion.

I come from that background. I know that landscape very well. I even navigate it better than most of the shyest authors here! I hide behind my masks and people think that they know me? *Laugh* They don't... and yet they do... if they read my blogs.

I'm an odd duck.

I do think a personal invitation may be in order. I know all 9 participants. I know Dutchessbarbie least of all. Good to see Petra back (Wakeupandlive). 9... isn't enough. Only half make it through. In the past, some have had good intentions but gave up when they missed a few entries (I suspect their heart really wasn't into it) and because this is a contest (with prizes) rather than an open forum (like QotD or Express it in Eight), once they can't "win" they give up. 20 contestants to start is better as it ends with 10-12.

Good luck on encouraging folks to comment. It works... some of the time."

57 degrees / 33 AQI at 10:30 pm.

To Robert: "Oh, I mostly agree. This article may make valid arguments but it's... So f***in' Anglo! As if this has anything to do with anyone living outside the Anglo-American bubble!

Examples?

2009 - phone booths everywhere, no cell phones.
2011 - even young teenagers have cellphones.

There was an important change in those two years in Costa Rica.

The 1980s and Reagan? There was severe inflation and shortages of necessities in CR and teenagers went to work instead of school... CR lost a few years of educated population.

1963 Irazu explodes. Ash everywhere in CR. Meanwhile the USA was getting mired down in Viet Nam, a war that defined any male exposed to an involuntary military draft. However, this war did NOT define Africa or South America, or most of Europe or Asia. And it affected the early so-called US boomers who were sent away to die in ways that someone born at the end, who was 10, would never have to contemplate.

1948. CR transitioned from a warzone to not having an army. Black folks were allowed to visit the Highlands. Important, maybe?

Every country has similar dates of fundamental changes in society. The USA likes to think it's the only country out there and that somehow with 4.25% or so of the world's population that our history and culture... and the labels we use to define people... matter most. What silly hubris!

So basically "silent, boomer, gen-x, millenial, gen-z" labels only apply to Americans and even then they are mostly meaningless."

AUGUST 29

47 degrees, 14 AQI. Chilly morning.

Posted Ida... "An Ode to Ida ... as it lands Some response.

It's 3:40 in NOLA ... landfall was almost 4 hours ago. Ida is feeding off the marshlands and not weakening. Double eye wall, winds may still be over 140. Slowing down. Could be a long night in Louisiana, one of the longest they have ever had.

I never did write her/him a poem:

To be used for W4K contest.

Ida came to Louisiana looking for jewels. If she rained hard enough, blew hard enough, the security cameras would be blinded, soaked or smashed to pieces. Ida was a natural born gold-digger and thief. She took after her aunt on her father's side. You may have known her. Her name was Katrina Burglar. We called her Kat, but in public we just whispered, K. No reason to wake the undead. But Surgee, dear Surgee, kept an eye on Ida and listened to every wind lash and splashing wave. He recorded it all.

Taboobooboo: SUMMER BREAK summer holiday vacation family travel or any derivatives of these words

Unhappy endings

It was the smoke
choking the valley
the bacon burning
tar coating your lungs

I... I tried to breathe
sitting by the window
in front of the air-purifier
under the blast of the a/c.

But time is precious
when green turns to gold
and the end looms nigh
you coughing up blood.

two months to relax
dreaming of beaches
you in your bikini
me drowning in sorrows

I look forward to tomorrow
packing the suitcase
going back to school
relearning how to breathe

the scream filled the air
coming out of nowhere
we looked here
we looked there
we never turned around

she stood rigid in place
mask on her face
arsenic and lace
grimace? just a trace
hands and feet tightly bound

did we know her name
did we share her shame
who did she blame
we never asked her game
but that unholy scream

and the shrieks
and the creaks
and the echoing peaks
memory of all that reeks
how her pleas pierced our dreams

It's around 70 degrees. I'm having internet issues... but who cares. It's pleasant outside. I got to see friends. Mailed a postcard. Ate a chocolate croissant.

Angie may have helped me clarify what I need to connect... rather than a laptop, an android tablet may do as well. I have a Samsung A6 but I'm looking for something with a great camera and specs. It may cost me a bit but rather than get a fancy phone a tablet may do.

Elisa poses questions: "Why does God allow for different religions and interpretations within the same religion?

I'll try to write a blog entry pondering that. My first response is: God doesn't. But that sounds flippant.

You can't make that kind of suggestion without at least suggesting what kind of safety net will be in place when the church (along with its schools) are brought down. Something has to replace these things for people, and it makes far more sense to have at least a skeleton of a plan ready.

I'll ponder this as well."

62 degrees at 11 p.m. AQI of 94 but possible rain in the morning. *Smile*

Ida is strengthening near Grand Cayman but Saturday is when we really find out.

AUGUST 27

Rain came through around 9. 50s and will stay cool today.

Ida is a hurricane and Julian should be named today. We may have to wait for Kate.

63-36. Nice symmetry. Rain on-and-off = a wonderful AQI of 36. And 63 degrees is comfortable.

I need to write two blogs. One in celebration of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream", August 28, 1963. The other on Katrina and how we blame God for everything instead of using our brains and heart! Katrina roared ashore on August 29, 2005.

In the future... how some Christian's are obsessed with the State of the Soul... yours... while at the same time neglecting their own (aggressively, ignorantly). Misusing Jesus? Weaponization of Religion or Spirituality? Stuck in the Wars of the Past? Schizoid? (although that would take a lot of research and soul searching. They good-god/bad-god theme is almost a genre. 99Dreamin: No, it’s still cray-cray, ain’t nobody want dat cray-cray at their front door

At YCC, does cray refer to crayon or crazy of both. Methinks both.

76 pleasant degrees; 44 breathable AQI at 3:45.

Groceries: putty to put up postcards... works. Chocolate milk! Pork at 1.79/lb. Pomegranate jelly.

Blog post stirring up some dust.

Funny... I'm sneezing.

Made gallo pinto last night. Ate it up today.

70 degrees; 47 AQI. @ 8:50.

I told Joy: "22 is my favorite number and I had a surprise birthday party, the only one I'd had since I was 3 ... and never again. I'd had a bad start to my stay in Costa Rica and it didn't get better for months. Yes, I remember the year, the dates, the names, the places ... all in a blur now after over 40 years.

Gold. I reread the poem with a fake Irish lilt and that actually helped me. Sometimes it does. It's a love poem of sorts.

Gold. Very little will combine with the noble metal. Very offish, in my humble opinion. Thankfully we are carbon based, less pure but also much more complicated and interesting and much more flexible than its cousin silicon which is what AI is based upon."

Still cool. Cool all day. Posted my d/c blog entry on the newsfeed hours ago. Little response. perhaps WDC is still in its summer slumber."

Gold Properties
Gold conducts heat and electricity. ...
Gold is ductile: It can be drawn out into the thinnest wire. ...
Gold is highly reflective of heat and light. ...
Gold is prized for its beauty. ...
Gold is malleable, so it can be flattened into extremely thin sheets.

Quotes: "Assuredly gold is purified by being submitted to the fire and if it contain any alloy or imperfection, it will disappear. That is the reason why violent tests become the cause of the everlasting glory of the righteous and are conducive to the destruction and disappearance of the unrighteous.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Tablets of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá v3, p. 655
Be not grieved; tests lead to the development of holy souls and the ardor of the flame of fire causeth the pure gold to shine and the violence of winds is conducive to the growth and thriving of a firm and well rooted tree.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Tablets of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá v2, p. 297
Be thou not sad, neither be thou unhappy; although the divine tests are violent, yet are they conducive to the life of the soul and the heart. The more often the pure gold is thrown into the furnace of test, the greater will become its purity and brilliancy and it will acquire a new splendor and brightness. I hope that thou art thyself in such a position.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Tablets of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá v2, p. 302-303"

I powered up my new computer yesterday. Not amused. Not sure that's what I need. I have 10 days to return it.

73 degrees or is it 69? 54 AQI. Weekly forecast: 74/65 for highs and lows 45/38. Summer has fled.

Summer came early and now autumn comes early; will winter be here by early November?

Melons ripened early in July. Melons like heat. Now? Cool weather does not bode well. Apples and squash? Squash will be at market next week.

At YCC "Does she remind you it’s your birthday every week?
Are you sure she’s your wife?
Does she wear a white coat over pink or blue “pajamas”?"

I washed my clothes. I wanted to wash my bed cover most of all and I remembered to do so! Memory is becoming an issue.

AUGUST 23

1 a.m. 58 degrees and dropping.

I wore a white brocade shirt today. Laxmi gave me her ribs. I took them home and ate them after I took my white shirt off. Spaghetti taught me that lesson long ago.

They locked us out of the Center again. I'm beyond beyond.

Need to reread "The Soul-Collector - Autumn-Crocus World

I wrote to Cappucine: "A friend saw a budgie up in a tree today. Someone's pet escaped. We don't have lorikeets in Montana. It feels like autumn after an early, very hot, very smoky summer. Here in the high plains... almost semi-desert... rain is always welcome. The high mountain valleys may frost tonight and our low may dip to 5 degrees."

To Elycia: "I'm barely clothed when I step out my door to use the toilet or shower that's right next to my room. In the stifling heat I didn't do anything with my hair nor did I put on anything more than my red shorts and a shirt (sometimes not).

I live in an old hotel that's half AirBnB... I resent their intrusion into what I consider my home. But they bring in the money and can do most whatever they please. Most have been respectful. Unfortunately with covid they make this place less safe."

Evening. Pleasant temps. Clean air after the sprinkles earlier.

I went to Best Buy and bought a computer. Not 100% thrilled but we'll see.

Sitting here eating peanut butter m&ms because Target is next door to Best Buy.

I took the bus there and back.

Earlier:

Billie Jo gifted me a salmon dinner and Laxmi a chicken taco. This is NOT the way to lose weight.

I'm tracking the hurricanes.

No one seems to want to talk about covid... burnt out?

Answer to QotD: "Yes, color can be used for communication. Ask any Sunday school teacher or prostitute. They are both acquainted with lust... and colors can be lusty.

We English speakers think of blue; some of us think that it's just one color. Spanish speakers think of celeste and azul. Japanese too. It's interesting to talk to Persians over what is green or blue as we don't draw the line in the same places.

Language is only one means of catagorizing the world around us. Many people are visual and color is essential to knowing whether something is ripe... or even poisonous. I grew up learning the big box of colors. My color vocabulary is more feminine than maculine and my color acuity is great. But my other senses are not as sharp and taste and sound are fading."

AUGUST 21

"Depends on your intention.

Autocrats crush. Parents, teachers, bullies... some crush. Is this bad? Probably for the person being crush while others applaud. Many identify only with winners.

Consensus and agreement work better in most situations. Any relationship that must be sustained cannot survive without it: marriage, friendship, a republic."

37 AQI, 67 degrees at 2:15. Looking forward to more sprinkles. At Butterfly Herbs writing two postcards: Angelo and Norb.

Bought orange honeydew melon, spinach pocket, 5 potatoes.

Pisses me off:

More than a few Americans fantasize about picking up their lives and moving to some seaside villa in a country where your rent is less than a car payment. It's a fantasy because while it might be affordable, few people actually end up doing it. There are things to consider other than rent when moving to a far-flung beach town. Stuff like "does anyone speak English?" Or "is the food edible?" Or "is there Wi-Fi?" Miss these answers and your turquoise-watered fantasy turns into an experience so stressful you end up back in America before getting your first sun burn.

Bad nightmares about how the Past is never ever past.

No past can be buried so deep *ZombieHand* that it can't come back as a zombie in your sleep.

*Dead*...bad nightmares, glad to be awake.

54 degrees, 18 AQI. damp, breathable, mist between the mountains.

2 p.m. little change. Air has rarely been more breathable.

Laxmi gave me here meatballs. Nice to sit with Willie, Phil and Don. One table of bridge, another of mahjonng. The Center is slowly opening up.

I wore a heavy log sleeve shirt today. Felt good.

Me? Holding on in spite of not doing so well.

Boardman: "What are some of the things we can do? I refer to them as the three C's: Connecting with others, contributing to something beyond yourself, and feeling challenged in some way."

Connecting: meeting friends, active on WDC.
Contributing: no clue... unless my activity here counts.
Challenged: learning Thai.

Went grocery shopping late but hardly anyone there. *Smile* Very pleasant walk. Looks like the air is going to stay clear for awhile. Lows may be between 5-10 degrees celsius. Means the end of the exhausting heat.

Days are noticeably shorter. It may feel like autumn this week.

AUGUST 19

53 degrees, 19 AQI at 9:24.

Saw David, Monte, Kathy. I had a danish, picked up a card from Pat, mailed a post card to Krysha. Sat with Angie and Billie Jo when I got back.

To Tina: "Black cases sometimes include birthdays or zodiac signs in their notebooks or biography or a welcome sign-in book.

Not all cultures consider your birthday of much importance.

Name day, saint day matter to some.

Some start with zero, other's with one. First birthday is when you turn one year old outside of the womb. For others the first birthday is the day you were born.

"He was a harvest baby" makes as much sense as "he was born at 6:21 a.m. on __/__/____".

Who was born on the same day or what was happening matters to some. My sister's birthday is next week. "She was born at 3 in the afternoon on the hottest day of the summer."

Some folks do not know their birthday. Some do NOT celebrate it. As a client Diane once explained, "I was raped by my uncle on my birthday. I just get a year older."

I'm not a birthday person myself."

68 degrees. 24 AQI. 2:22 p.m.

For a blog titled "Free Cold Shoulders"?

"suser:isiterrasource: I guess we're the only huggers. *HeartO* I've seen 'free hugs' signs and sometimes indulge. I miss hugs. I miss touch and cultures where touching is acceptable (like Kosovo).

The responses here give me pause.

I've commented in blogs how cold and distant some people are becoming in real life... pre-covid. Here at WDC? I guess today's reponses answer my question as to why I'm having issues interacting with folks at WDC. From where I sit it appears that WDC writers are happiest without personal or virtual contact. A cliquish club of the Frozen Chosen. [latter-day-cave-dwellers]

At least folks are being honest.

However, it's another reason to search out new friends, move to a friendlier cheaper town, move on from this website. I'm old but not dead yet. I want some warmth before I'm eternally cold."

To R: "I took some time to ponder before I responded.

I want the interaction but I'm leery of social media and have ways in which I protect myself.

My birthday, my street address, many personal details are not found here or on other social media. Have you seen my picture? Not likely. I'm quite the private person in many ways.

I post pictures of my travels on spacekook but have cut back on interactions there because so much is toxic.

But ... a preference for private comments ... I hadn't thought about that before.

I'm sure you aren't the only one. May help me understand the lack of interaction in general at WDC and the almost total avoidance of certain issues."

Sun set behind a veil of grey. Now 61 degrees at 10 p.m. AQI okay. Rain on and off in the forecast.

60 degrees with an AQI of 120 = another day housebound?
82 and 118 at noon... but I can see blue sky.

My stomach was complaining after too much coffee, so I ate stuffing with lentils.

I need a life.

"Grace in the arms of Haiti" TS Grace is strengthening and headed for Jamaica, man.

93 degrees with 21 mph winds blowing out the smoke. AQI a pleasant 72. It's 15 minutes to 5.

85 degrees and 49 AQI. I can breathe! Actually took the garbage out and went to the corner store to treat myself to a pint of Snickers ice cream.

I could go for a walk ... but I won't.

AUGUST 17

65 degrees 66 AQI.

99Dreamin: I would argue anything beyond 3 is Fanta Sea

SunnyDaysFl: Well beyond 3 was very iffy even a few years ago but if we are looking at days 4&5 in the nhc cone they have gotten darn good.

When someone says there's a storm abrewing, I say, get out the coffee.

71 degrees and 68 AQI. They say scattered showers but I'm hoping for more. Should move in from th Northwest after 5. It's 1:18 and cloudy.

I was allowed inside the Senior Center for the first time in over a year. I could grumble...

But good to sit with Bob, Kathy, John, Dalton, Laxmi and Don. And see Jane and Kelly.

Dalton got his Pfizer booster.

I'm home feeling a bit more energized. It's still warmer inside than out but I could put on clothes if I wanted to.

A week of cool weather 78/45 is forecast.

3:20: 68 degrees with an AQI of 107? Winds brought the smoke in again but but there're raindrops on my window. Long before 7 the air will be cleansed.

9:25: 56 degrees with an AQI of 48. A rainband coming in.

125 AQI ... can't go out. 64 degrees sounds great but it's supposed to reach mid-90s today.

134 AQI and 73 degrees at 11:20. Wrong direction!

I made a pot of mashed potatoes (out of a bag) adding basil, sazon Goya, chicken. I'll eat that today. I try not to do much cooking on hot days.

138 AQI and 78 degrees at 12:12. Heating up and getting smokier.

I wrote a blog entry in response to Neva's post. Used to do that all the time!

Now... to respond to Robert... my friends bought out all the bug-zappers. None for you. Oh to write my fine whine.

To Elisa: "It actually goes with my blog entry I just posted as I saw yours! "Fluidity: the fickleness of weather, the embrace of gender.

Anyhoo... why worry about plots and subplots? Or one narrowly focused genre? So many stories happen behind the scenes.

In "He's coming to me" the genre is BL (boy-love = Asian rom-com). But... is it? It's also a detective story, a mystery, a family drama, and is soundly grounded in time and place (modern Bangkok, Chinese cemetery) and culture (attitude towards monks, ghosts, food, music) in two decades (1997, 2017) delivered with silly humor, suspense, longing and angst. It all makes perfect sense in the end... but has it ended?

So... why would poly-anything have to be resolved? Not all relationship are tidy. They arrive upon the scene like a squalling baby and continue long after the lights are turned off.

There is a western (American) cultural notion that everything must be resolved. Bullcrap. Life seldom works like that. Akira Kurasawa's "Rashomon" (1950) is a must see if you haven't watched it recently."

To 4provinces: "I would've liked to have seen Afghanistan carved up. Certain, more progressive areas, would've welcomed our support. Works elsewhere. Taiwan (more open), Brunei (mostly closed), Saudi Arabia (absolutely closed), Hungary (closing up), Kentucky? not sure... a real mix.

Biden reminds me of a deep glacial loch. Don't be fooled; beware of Nessie.

But the messaging out of DC, on covid in particular, has been drowned out by the states.

You are free to read and disagree: "Koming out of Kovid and Kovid Konsernz

Viet Nam was concerned about China long before we were! I'd go but I'm studying Thai at the moment and the region is huge and will warrant 2-3 trips at the minimum.

It's just my opinion but trade and tourism can open an area up in ways that punishing and isolating cannot. I wish Iran were open to American travelers, same with Cuba and Korea.

Nigeria and Russia are two countries that do not want American tourists and China limits access.

The US also limits access and the insular American attitudes reflect that."

153 AQI = no. 91 degree temp = no. It's 22 minutes past the vesper hour.

The hour that whispers 'day is done' ...

To Whata @ 19:30: "90 degrees. AQI 150-180. 150 is hazardous. Rain possible on Tuesday followed by cooling temps. It's the combo of heat, smoke and covid. It's not healthy inside. It's worse outside.

Greener pastures? Not around here. I understand that you're ill; but, most of the folks here, especially those in theri 20s and 30s don't have that excuse.

I might post "Let Them Die" ... the battlelines have been drawn. I don't have much of a choice because of where I live so I resent those who come and go without any thought or concern about those of us stuck here. I'm feeling trapped again. A tourist town is a curse when the tourists show no respect."

163 AQI and still 81 degrees at 9:09. *Worry*
166 AQI @ 10:20.

AUGUST 15

"Ryme screamed. His lime-green sheen was turning olive."

68 degrees at midnight = nice. 168 AQI = choke.

66 degrees at 9:50. 167 AQI. Still cool but smoke gets in my eyes.

To LA Grawitch: "I would agree [about a different approach from the beginning vis a vis masks and vaccins] but I think we've passed that point. Americans would rather retreat to their tribal enclaves than seek solutions. I don't see how one side can live with the other if they are perceived as killing them off.

I don't think it's politicians and media. I suspect it's traditional dogmatism versus investigative science. The schisms run deep in American society. It morphs with every generation but it's underpinning is an us-versus-them zero-sum mentality that in my opinion goes back to the OT. There are modern nations that don't play this tribal game."

96 and 158 at 6. No bueno.

I told Robert: "I am a descendent of those that survived the plague that decimated Scandinavia. Whether I am descended from the original inhabitants or those who moved in later I may never know.

99% of a virus or bacteria may die but those that survive are stronger. The "strongest" don't kill off their host.

If humans are latter-day-microbes then they will need to learn how to not kill off their host, the Earth, to survive.

Even if only 1% continue (90 million) it will be enough for humanity to continue. Civilization? Not as we know it."

57 cool degrees under thin grey. 54 AQI. Should warm up and be a nice day.

Bryan picked up his money.

To Annette w/cc: "I think blue cases (purple cases?) should take note of site squabbles. Not to intervene but to be aware that these little brush fires can get out of hand.

Spacenook got severe blow back by not intervening in the conspiracy meme wars, then received more when they did. Hurt-feelings and misuderstandings are one thing but 'tribal' warfare is another. My D/C blog entries will wade into treacherous waters at some point. I expect some blow-back when I do.

I say this because some challenges/contests are uber-careful where they tread. 30DBC and QotD are vanilla pudding because 'someone may get upset' and they are trying to be broad based (read geared towards pre-teens and the 'pious' with or without opinions). I almost understand. I just don't agree. Much writing wells up from deep emotions... and vomit ain't never vanilla.

Another point: is it possible to make <18 members a different color case (optional?) like green... *Bagg* ... I only ask because there's no way to know. Some are mature writers but some seem to be quite immature.

Anyhoo... that's what I was referring to. A website worried more about the word 's***' than s***-flinging will face challenges."

Everyone set me straight on blue cases. They do newsletters, occasionally correct item ratings. They are volunteers.

It wasn't a bad day... just somewhat worn out. Tonight I creamed cherries and cheese. Earlier today I ate rice and beans and a pork patty. I'm doing okay.

71 degrees, 69 AQI at 22:22. Quiet, barely a breeze.

AUGUST 11

58 degrees c/ 54 AQI @ 06:20.

NBC News: Feds warn of potential violence fueled by false election claims

My post "Donald Speaks at the Restoration has been up for hours. 13 views, 4 thumbs-up, one comment. Maybe people are speechless?

Long walk home from Trempers. Bought book on Thai language. $10. At market bought cashews and 2 peaches.

93 hot breezy degrees with an AQI of 67. Now 88 hot but breathable degrees at 7:44. *Sad*
