Write about serendipity."Serendipity is "the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way:" according to Google. I don't believe in serendipity. I believe that God is in control of my life, though He uses the choices I make to bring about the logical consequences. Yes my life is usually pretty good because I am learning to make better choices. I am still paying for the mistakes of my past, some of which have longer consequences than others. However I don't believe that anything just happens by chance, but that all things have causes. Yes we do have "freak accidents" that seemingly come out of nowhere, but something caused the accident. It didn't just happen. If a boulder rolls down a hill and hits a car, something caused the boulder to roll and the car just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. Do I believe it was luck? No, I believe it was a series of events culminating in a moment. I believe that Jesus is in charge and I trust Him to know what He is doing, even when the consequences harm me in some way. I recently had a huge kidney stone and it blocked my ureter so that my kidney was damaged. I could have blamed God because I have Stage III kidney failure. I choose not to do so because God did not force me to drink nothing but soda and thus do the damage. In fact, He warned me through several professionals that I needed to drink more water but I didn't listen. I consider it my responsibility. Preachers warn people all the time about being eternally separated from God in Hell. People say "How could a loving God do that?" A loving God is not doing it. A loving God sent His Son (basically became human and died Himself) to accept the punishment due us. All we have to do is ask that same God to forgive us, repent and allow Him to rule in our hearts. He will guide our behavior and our thoughts to improvement and He will save us. However if we choose to ignore Him He will allow us to go to Hell because we choose to go there. He gives us the choice because He loves us and wants us to willingly, freely love Him in return. Make the right decisions! Whatever you do don't blame chance or serendipity for your circumstances. Blame your choices for them. "Prompt: Author Brad Meltzer says he admires honesty in writing the most. What do you think honesty in writing is, especially when you are writing fiction?"I believe honesty in writing is when an author is him/herself and does not try to come across as something different. It's really hard to explain but I guess if they typically use common words in their spoken language I prefer them to use the same language in their writing. In other words don't try to hide your personality but let it shine through in your writing style. I also think it is okay to allow the characters in our stories to be human. I watch the syndicated television show "Walker, Texas Ranger" all the time and I often question myself for doing so because the guy never makes a mistake and absolutely nothing seems to stop him. I often wonder when they are going to have him stopping bullets with his teeth? I mean make your characters a little more human. We all make mistakes so allow your characters to do so as well.     |
