Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "On January 29th, 1595 William Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" is thought to have been first performed. Officially published early 1597. What was your initial reaction to the story? Did you like it or dislike it? Have you ever written a story like Romeo and Juliet?"

Now your are reminding me of my English Literature classes at school. In high school I studied Romeo and Juliet. We analyzed it and wrote reports about it before finally getting to see a Broadway production of it. I personally couldn't understand most of the antiquated language. I know that at the time of the performance it was very common to talk that way, but this is hundreds of years later. Let's talk normal!

Romeo and Juliet take us back to a different time and place. It was a time when families warred against families and there was not a lot of police intervention. The story of Romeo and Juliet could easily have been true. It is sad though that romance today is judged by standards applied to what actually amounted to a teenage crush. Romeo and Juliet did not know each other well enough to have been "in love". They had barely met.

Another thing I have to say is that nothing is ever worth taking your own life for.
