L'aura del campo

'é a lua, é a lua, na quintana dos mortos'
♣ Federico García Lorca ♣

Higgins Street Bridge, April 25th 2009, Missoula, Montana

L'aura del campo. A breeze in the meadow. So it began the last day of Spring, 2005; on the 16th day of the month of Light of the year 162. This is a supplement to my daily journal written to a friend, my muse; notes I do not share. Here I will share what the breeze has whispered to me.

September frost

Alone on the 4th waiting for the clock to sound:
4 bells, 4 chimes, 4 thoughts that toll to comfort me.
The number for death and diamonds; how carbon, squeezed
into its ultimate form, shapes the lives we dance
in a shout and a twist. Oh sweet deliverance!
Strip my cold flesh and make of my bones a fossil,
worn on your chest, as warm as I will ever get.

Chant and toss

Lavish the lettuce.
Adorn with garlic.
Horseradish dressing!
Make vampires vanish.

Dancing across the waters

Spring hope

It's a long ways across the waters
too far to swim, too cold, too choppy
too risky for an angel with clipped wings;
he'd dance across it if he could.

Summer mirage

The salt pan shimmers in the heat
as he shimmies to the jungle beat;
a memory, a genetic camouflage,
jeans grinding, sweet-n-salty, indiscreet.

Autumn puddles

A patch quilt in raiment red, green, and gold
and Boy George, by George, twirling to gentle notes,
a hush that ripples across the puddles
on a soft day of rainbows after the storm.

Winter pond

He skates as if his feet know the script,
the cursive tales he inscribes in ice
erased by sun and melt each day; to fly
across this palimpsest his only vice.

Spring hope

He swears he'd dance across the melting
river's roar; once healed he'd surely soar;
another spring, another thousand years;
this too shall pass; he folds his wounded wings.

"I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas came out in 2009. Feel good times? I'm not feeling it. I live next to a casino where young and old spit in each other's faces. I'm dealing with it. But I've always been a serious person and this song conveys the message "live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse." So inappropriate for Covid 2020.

So I write anti-lyrics:

You got the virus

slim and trim
showing your skin
you sway
to the beat

who got the virus

so nineteen-eighty
so sick with a.i.d.s
so nineteen-twenty
so sick, afraid

as you sway
as you sway
as you sway

who got the virus

slim and trim
showing you skin

have you prayed
have you prayed
that grandma stays well
have you prayed

she won't get the virus

drink in one hand
party as you bop
not afraid of the virus
dance till you drop

slim and trim
showing your skin
you'll look great in the coffin
is that you that's coughin'?

as you sway
as you sway
do you pray
do you pray

you won't catch the virus

too late, too late,
i got the virus
now you got the virus
and your grandma too

Although it's a party song, this is a video with lyrics but without the drinking and partying:

Springsteen bulletproofs the cure

         a cento

We couldn't get closer than this
And I ain't got nothing to say
The way we stalk, the way we kiss
I go to bed feeling the same way

This time, baby, I’ll be bulletproof

This gun's for hire
the grooviest thing, the perfect dream
You can't start a fire
Then curl up in the fire and sleep

This time, baby, I’ll be bulletproof

© Kåre Enga [177.208] (2.september.2020)

A cento. Lines snipped and used are in bold:

"Lovecats", The Cure:

We move like cagey tigers
We couldn't get closer than this
The way we walk, the way we talk
The way we stalk, the way we kiss

Then curl up in the fire
And sleep
for awhile
It's the grooviest thing
It's the perfect dream

La Roux, "Bulletproof":

This time, baby, I’ll be bulletproof
This time, baby, I’ll be bulletproof

Bruce Springsteen, "Dancing in the Dark":

I get up in the evening
And I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

Forgot to finish? Enter? So I made it 27 syllables instead.

So you won. So what.

Disheveled after wine and roses...
What memories! What treachery!
Who doesn't revel in your triumph?

Me.
