Black poplar rising The Balm of Gilead1 points to the sky as it bids its angels goodbye. They're off to fly on wings of cotton, their innocence forgotten once they find new homes, taking root wherever there's a trickle of water to aim new shoots for the sky that guide the weary traveler across this arid land. For where there's a black poplar rising there's a place to rest and in the shade a place to search for water or, too weary to carry on, lift expectant eyes to empty skies and seek ascension. © Kåre Enga [175.134] (13.juli.2020) (12 lines) Use an antonym of 'descend' I chose between: arise, ascend, lift, mount, rise, soar, spike, up.
