L'aura del campo

'é a lua, é a lua, na quintana dos mortos'
♣ Federico García Lorca ♣

Higgins Street Bridge, April 25th 2009, Missoula, Montana

L'aura del campo. A breeze in the meadow. So it began the last day of Spring, 2005; on the 16th day of the month of Light of the year 162. This is a supplement to my daily journal written to a friend, my muse; notes I do not share. Here I will share what the breeze has whispered to me.

Black poplar rising

The Balm of Gilead1 points to the sky
as it bids its angels goodbye.
They're off to fly on wings of cotton,
their innocence forgotten once they find new homes,
taking root wherever there's a trickle of water
to aim new shoots for the sky
that guide the weary traveler across this arid land.
For where there's a black poplar rising
there's a place to rest
and in the shade a place to search for water
or, too weary to carry on, lift expectant eyes
to empty skies and seek ascension.

Use an antonym of 'descend' I chose between: arise, ascend, lift, mount, rise, soar, spike, up.

Interlude

One harp harkens through cold black/white starkness,
soothing catharsis
of the crimson bursts of blood and ire.
