I started reading vampire novels when I was young. Fred Saberhagen wrote good ones. Then came the master - Ann Rice. I've seen just about every vampire movie (ALL monster movies!) there is (love the Blade ones). I don't honestly mind the sparkly vampires. The Twilight lady admits she never read any horror novels and knew nothing about vampires. To me, her book presents fantasy beasts under the name of vampires, but is really a teen romance and THAT'S why I won't read them. (Whiny, angsty self-absorbed teens. Yuck!)
The idea of a 'new' vampire idea is to put the classic vampire in new (modern/unusual/future) circumstances and have them adapt. I recently had a good idea for this, but haven't come up with a plot yet. Fem-fangs will have to wait, I'm busy Wizardpunking.
