I love my little mousy friend
who thinks up the bestest games

like cheese party
with the special wood chip
all sitting up and formal in the sawdust

and catch the tail
we haven’t managed yet
but we will someday soon

and climb to the top of the wheel
we are getting better
yesterday, we went so fast
it started squeaking louder than
my little mousy friend ever did
even that time when we saw
the big thing from the classroom next door
that stared at us through our wall
with sharp teeth

but we don’t like to think of that
if we can help it

we have a special dining room
where food appears
like magic, every day in the chaos
before our quiet time

I like that time the best
when my little mousy friend curls up
in a little mousy ball
with me in the middle
and we sleep

until the children come again
