Re: Re: Re: Excellent Prose
Don't you think you have a style EW? A voice? I like the way you write what you write between your well researched quotes. It is pleasant to my ear(eye / er brain).

When you read what you write, do you like the sound of it? Writing advice is likely set on a pendulum swinging between "write any old slop, you have to write write write", and "find a muse, a sweat lodge, and a spirit guide and find your voice, there's no reason to do anything until you have your voice."

My current thinking is between, I hope. I'm going to see if I can craft something that people will read. I know I'm not polished, but I wonder if the grismill of rewriting won't bring what I write more in line with what people will want to read. This is my current hope as I try to shake off concerns about my lack of skill so I can get on from a draft to rewriting.

I see Voice as something that should be tied to an audience. Right? It doesn't stand on its own. Someone needs to get you. My guess is that there is an audience for what sounds good in your head, Tobber. What you need to do is train yourself up to be able to encode what you are hearing in your head so that people can read it like you imagine it.

I think that Stienbeck's experimenting sounds like a good idea too. I myself am hoping to write something shorter than the beginning of a novel. Hopefully something with an end. As to you, Mr. Wild, I think you might be due to put something down and see if people like it. Run it by me, if you would, as I say, I like what I read from you.

Regards,

LSO
