Yeah, I hear ya on that. That's the weird thing about lyrics. Poets and songwriters are gonna see the written words very differently. As a writer of both (and one who clearly doesn't follow the guidelines for either), I find that something has to distinguish the two forms. Lyrics within themselves have to have distinguishing characteristics as well. One thing people USED to complain about was they weren't sure how the lyrics were supposed to sound. I started using various dialectic forms to convey tone inflections, rhythm changes, and other things that gave the lyrics life.
That's just me, though.
