It can save you.
John thought it would be nice to cross the park in order to go to the library. The night threatened some rain but he did not mind it.
“Take an umbrella, just in case you get caught in it.” His wife, Ella, said.
As he strolled down the park, enjoying the smell of rain, he got a call from Ella.
“Do you think you can stop at the store and get some yogurt, after you go to the library?”
Before he could respond, he froze in fear at the sound of something growling from behind. He slowly turned to face a huge and angry dog.
“What was that?”
“Uh…” John could not speak from the fear he felt.
“Is that a dog I hear?”
John didn’t respond.
“John, are you there? Please answer me.”
He could hear her but the dog had his full attention.
“I…I…”
“Listen to me! Open the umbrella and charge at it! They are known to be afraid.”
“Wha-What? How is that possible?” John stammered.
“Trust me!”
“But…”
“Stop arguing with me. Just do as I say. I promise you it will work.”
He could see the dog ready to charge at him. As the dog took a step forward John did what his wife had suggested! The dog took a step back and yelped in fear. Then it scattered off as John watched it disappear.
“It actually worked!” John cried in amazement.
“Are you okay?” Ella asked.
John sighed in relief: “Yeah. I’m good. Thank you!”
“Good. Now, don’t forget the yogurt.”
