A Journal to impart knowledge and facts
July 22, 2015

I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.

I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.

I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Okay, I think I’ve tortured you enough this week *Rolling* Today, the prompt is a little simpler *Wink*

What are your weekend plans? If this weekend isn’t noteworthy, share your plans for an upcoming weekend or a past weekend that is worth writing about.

Really I don't have any specific plans, most of the time. We are already moving into the forecasted heat wave of weather. Warnings are out about how to keep hydrated. I'm hoping for TV, writing, or reading. I filled the ice bucket in the freezer with ice. I caught up all the laundry yesterday so I'm not running the dryer for the next few days.

Some of the times it isn't good to be on the road around here is during severe heat or blizzards or severe cold, below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Drivers seem to end up on the maniac fringe at those times. Shoppers trying to get finished and get home so they can weather-in-place are more anxious. Everyone is more prone to mistakes.

I don't like to leave the household pets without supervision very long during excessive weather. Severe weather also affects their habits. Plus, in the heat I hate to lock up the house and turn off the fans for any length of time.

I cleaned the barn early and put out extra water for the pony. I even managed to open a door that wouldn't open on the Southeast side of the barn so the breeze will blow through. She can get into the barn out of the bugs and sun, to eat her hay.

A positive thing is there seems to be a breeze rustling leaves on the trees. The weather news is saying stay home and weather-in-place. Unless something comes up we probably will.

Eat *Cabbage*it's healthy.

Complete the following statement: To achieve greatness, one must...

Fairy playing a flute *PirateShip*

This was on Google. Quote: https://www.wikihow.com/Achieve-Greatness A map to greatness!

What Is Greatness?

This is what popped into my mind when I read the prompt. To achieve greatness, one must walk away. I don't exactly know what greatness is? After watching news about politicians, firefighters, police and other heroes of our day, I believe the ones who are not in the news, who just plod along to keep the world going are probably living a greatness experience.

Describe the earliest memory you have.

A signature owl *Fairy3*

Quote from Goodreads: “There comes a time in your life when you have to choose to turn the page, write another book or simply close it. ― Shannon L. Alder

Memories

Barbara Streisand is one of my favorite singers. The song is from the Broadway hit Cats.

I have a lot of memories from before my mother died. But, I couldn't say for sure which one was older than another.

One I always think is fun to revisit is definitely at least 70 years old. I was sleeping in a drawer in a bed room in Pennsylvania. I was warm and they called the Doctor to the house because I wouldn't wake up. I did wake up when he showed up. but kept my eyes closed. I remember listening to him tell my parents there was nothing wrong with me, I was awake with my eyes closed. I was just warm and cozy in the drawer. The same Doctor delivered my third son, treated my children for minor problems, and gave me good life and child raising suggestions.

Later in life, when I told my dad I remembered this, he laughed. He said it was a very cold winter in Pennsylvania and they were visiting his parents at the farm where I now live. That house is gone now. I couldn't have been very big to fit in a drawer.

Still later in life, when I had children of my own, I remember reading magazine articles about the fact that humans have a minor ability to hibernate, which for a human is not true hibernation but a deep kind of sleep. If their body temperature drops too low eventually, it would turn into hypothermia. So, stay warm.

I read a *Books1*written by a famous Jewish lawyer who said his mother has a memory that is extensive. I am happy to read about other people who remember things from long ago because memory is one of the things people like to question me about. When I took psychology the professor was a psychiatrist, who said we all came equipped with very good memories, but many people choose to forget a lot of things.

Today, let’s talk movies. What was the most recent movie you watched? Have you been to the theater recently? What movie are you looking forward to? What is your favorite movie of all time?

*Owl1* signature dancing owl *CupO*

Quote from Black Panther: “How many times do I have to teach you: just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved." —Shuri https://bookriot.com/2018/03/27/black-panther-quotes/

We watch a couple movies from Netflix at home a week. The most recent movie that we liked was Detectors which isn't really a movie but is an English series about the members of a club that uses metal detectors to hunt for buried treasure in local fields near their homes. It is comedic and adventurous. Some times we get hold of low budget junk. *Crazy* We often like English series about detectives.

The last movie I saw in a theater was "The Last Jedi." I will watch Star Wars when I can it's just adventurous. The characters are always up against astonishing odds and they find astonishing ways to take down the evil and make the world better.

Until Star Wars came along I was a fan of Star Trek. We watched it on TV. Then the movies came out. I haven't kept up with the movies because we don't live close to a theater. So, I could watch them on Netflix but K isn't a fan of fantasy or science fiction and I don't like to much gore or nightmare quality films. So, I look for movies that we both might enjoy. He gets some of his favorite themes I get some of mine.

As a Christian I was a fan of "The Case For Christ." I read the book and the movie was interesting. Really you don't have to be a Christian to read "The Book of Strange New Things." I would like to see an effort to make this into a movie. It is a popular story and is adventurous. It treats some thoughts about what will be found if we ever contact another type of species on their own planet.

I liked Mars. I read the book then had to see the movie which we were able to watch at home. I really believe Humans may go to space and colonize new planets.

I liked Avatar. I hope the second one will be as good. I will look for the next Star Wars about Jedi's that is coming out December of 2019, "The Rise of Skywalker."

I guess I don't have a favorite movie of all time. I think if I see one that makes me excited it will be the new favorite. My introduction to "To Kill a Mockingbird," was a movie. I saw the movie before I read this favorite by Harper Lee. It is an unforgettable story.

So, in that frame of mind, the last movie I saw at home that really interested me with great characters, wisdom, and intense, independent women was Black Panther. I thought the cast and producers did a great job of showing off what the world should really be looking toward, a technological society that is progressive and peaceful.

Describe a time when a personal failure became a positive experience.

signature dancing owl *Butterfly2O*

Quote:“Feeling tired? Learn to rest, not to quit”
Dido Stargaze
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/failure-quotes

I'm exhausted today. K and I cleaned the barn for more hay that is even now being put away in the barn. Weather says rain is coming our way part of the week; so I am glad the haying is progressing so well.

Failure to me is slipping from my mindfulness attitude. I can easily do just that, when I'm tired and have to be social. About 50 years ago I decided it's better to be silent that say things that aren't relevant to someone else's peace of mind. Over the years I found out if I'm too quiet someone thinks I should talk. If I say what I see it's better to shut up. So, today I think I would be better to shut up because barn work wore me down.

I just reread the prompt and I have to say there must be a time when failure was a positive experience, but I can't remember one at this moment. Maybe, that's because I put failures behind me and move on as well as I can. And I try to remember the human experience is a bumpy road for everyone.

In the age of the internet, most everything we say and do online will be preserved forever. Even though our opinions, beliefs, and actions change over time, should we still be held accountable for our words, even words spoken or written years ago?

owl for signature use *Ornament1R*

Quote:
"On one side of accountability is courage, on the other is freedom." Jean Hamilton-Fford

https://www.inc.com/gordon-tredgold/49-quotes-that-will-help-you-avoid-the-blame...

ACCOUNTABILITY

*BurstP* By Who? Accountable means by someone else. Words cannot necessarily mean anything a few seconds after they are dropped into the air. I always liked what Thumper told Bambi -= "If you can't say something nice - don't say nothin at all." But, in the long run you can avoid trauma and heart attacks by spitting it all out there, writing it down. Sometimes, people try to hold others accountable because they heard some piece of untrue gossip. Just because some friend said it does not make it true. So, accountability means watching what you hear, finding out where it came from, and whether it is meaningful or not.

*HotBalloon* There is a reality that is so old it has become truth and clique as well. Actions speak louder than words. We may not know what started any particular war but the history and evidence of loss is still with us. When you look up wars you will usually find a particular action that started a war. I think there were probably a lot of words that came before the action.

*Leaf2Y* Words can be withdrawn, apologies made, or learning changes the opinion of who wrote it. I'm not really sure people change but, knowledge changes opinions. That's what the media is for, not just to inform about the latest bad thing, but to inform about how the thing is being viewed and why it happened in the first place. There is a part of your news that is suppose to be ongoing. It is part of informing the public.

*TreeCypress* Is there a strike at a local factory? What are the local workers demands? What is the factories position about their demands? What is the price of the product? How well are the owners being paid? Are the high wages driving up the price of the product, so it is out of reach of the public? How much of this is knowledge you can glean from your news coverage?

*Laptop* At one time in our lives newspapers became so expensive we could not afford to buy them. K bought in with a couple people he worked with and they bought one paper and shared it on breaks and lunch time when he worked in a shop. I would occasionally buy a single copy of news magazine off the rack. Because the stories were more indepth.

*Lightning3* Now, we don't have cable so we get internet. Price wise it is one or the other not both. We have local news and national news off our antenna. The news bits in a broadcast from NBC, CBS, or ABC are quick and give you just the facts of what happened rarely any indepth reporting. I can get PBS or radio and TV. That is where we get some media coverage that is really more informative.

*Coffee* Even on the internet you have to hunt for the truth. You have to be sure what you are reading is accurate and truthful. In some instances there is some value in reading something you know can't be true because you are forming opinion based on knowledge. 200 years from now how will you know whats true?

*Fairy* As an example, technology is aiding with film, pictures and some accurate reporting. Have you ever seen the films of Nazi death camps when the inmates were being set free? Steps are being taken to preserve film, books and other media that will give accurate reports of devastation and man's inhumanities over the passing of time. The object is never forget.

*Clock2* There is lots to think about when writing down words. It is also time to think about not writing it down. I would rather sift through historical writings for the truth, than not have written accounts of it at all. Then, we are doomed to do exactly the same crazy things over and over.

WRITE ON!

Would you rather live a boring, long life or an exciting, short life?
Would you rather be able to fly or teleport?
Would you rather be able to only time travel to the past or only time travel to the future?
Would you rather lose your hearing or your sight?
Would you rather live the rest of your life as a cat or a dog?

signature dancing owl *Surfing2*

Live life to the fullest, and focus on the positive. Matt Cameron. ... https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/live_life

WOULD YOU RATHER?

I would rather live a long life. I can't see any life as really boring. If life is too quiet you can spice it up. If it's to noisy you can turn down the sound. It's just not ever very boring.

I would definitely rather teleport it is so quick and sometimes unexpected. Just the easier way to go. Of course if you teleport people on the other side have to take you as you are. No luggage or change of clothing. I guess that's why Hermione Granger traveled to school by train so she could take a trunkful of clothes and books. Guess they didn't have Kindles.

I'm not sure I want to time travel anywhere. There is something about time travel that makes me cringe. I'm not sure what that means. I try not to read books about it unless they are scientific. Real science doesn't bother me just fantasy time travel. I like the present.

I would rather not lose my hearing or my sight. Neither one is easier than the other to live without. Both are part of 5 senses that make up the way to learn.

After what I've seen in life, I guess I don't want to be a cat or a dog. I could not control what kind of owner I would receive. *Cheshire*

The End *Audio1* Loud or soft

I'm very happy being me, although sometimes I'd love to be a bird so that I could fly. The bird is powered by its own life and by its motivation. Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark. Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.

I’m a bird watcher. I was an intern with the PURPLE MARTIN ASSOCIATION in 2004. And, I took a through the mail course with Cornell University about Bird Biology.

I have feeders in the front of the house and back of the house. Most of the birds on the list are species that visit my feeders.

A few are local to the Great Lakes. One or two are just there because their names meet the alphabet requirement.

Birds are interesting. Some communicate by sitting on the window if the feeders run low in the winter. Others tell the flocks when I am filling feeders with calls and screeches. Chickadees will sit on your fingers when you fill feeders. If birds get stuck on the back porch they fly out the open door when I point at the opening.

Bye gotta fly now!

Do you have any tattoos or want one in the future? If you had to have a piece of art permanently on your body, what would you want it to say about you?

Manx Cat from Japan

INKSPOTS

https://www.mayoclinic.org/tattoos-and-piercings/art-20045067/in-depth/art-20045...Just a little rain on your parade.

Quote From Goodreads: “She had a flower tattoo on her wrist; "What does that mean?" he asked her. "Absolutely nothing," she said, "it's just a flower.”
C. JoyBell C.

No. I don't have any tattoos and I don't want one in the future. Art on your body is a mindset. I would be afraid that the ink in the top layer of my skin would not be a good thing. I have very white skin. Something about Northern DNA and less melanin. Even though I was born in Florida. It still relates to DNA. Also, the elderly need to take good care of their skin. It is a part of your body that protects other parts and over the years takes a beating with sun, outdoor work and play, and aging.

I like jewelry. I had my ears pierced and it gives me a reason to wear earrings occasionally. or just buy them because I like jewelry. I have to keep the pierced places clean and sterile to avoid infection. It can be annoying.

My daughter bought me several pieces of jewelry over the years that remain my favorites. I wear bracelets more than other things or rings when I go somewhere dressy. I like jewelry because I can take it off. I guess jewelry can say things about you as quick as a tattoo.

My brother is an exceptionally good leather artist. He gave me a leather pony tail clip that I wore to school for several years in my teens. I don't wear it often but I still have it. I have two leather bracelets. It says I like leather.

Some poor cow died so I could ride in a leather saddle and wear dyed decorated cow hide on my wrists. I love the smell of neatsfoot oil and saddle soap as I clean my saddle. Exactly what does that say about me?

A generals wife, the mother of a friend I rode horses with, in Texas, in the 60's, called me a hick farm girl. I agreed with her; because I personally thought that said a lot about me. Hick farm girls are notoriously famous for being capable of living. *Smile*
