For my blog Prompt: Define sin."

Sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4.

For my blog "Prompt: Today cruising through the WDC galaxy with Princess Leia, we found a star named (120) writing haikus about waterfalls. What do you think of waterfalls? Are there any near you?"

Yes. Blackwater Falls State Park is near me and I once lived less than a quarter of a mile from Niagara Falls. It's odd, but I never met an atheist at Niagara or Blackwater Falls. When you see something that natural and beautiful you see Intelligent Design written all over it. You cannot deny God.

For my blog "Prompt: Most people in America say they believe in God. What does believing in God mean to you?
How would you describe your view of God? Jesus? Is He a reality to you or more of a vague concept?"

To me believing in God means believing in and having a daily, personal relationship with the Son of God. Most people say they believe in God but they are not willing to commit to the Son of God. If we fail to have a relationship with Jesus Christ we are just peddling our wheels. We are going to hell. A relationship with Jesus is dynamic and life-changing. I could not stand life without Jesus in it.

I think this poem says it all. America is in trouble now. We have politicians defunding the police, passing ungodly laws, and inflating prices. It is disturbing to say the least. However, America will survive.

For my blog "Prompt: Romans 1:17 - What does the Apostle Paul mean by writing “the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith?"

It is not by coincidence that you chose this verse. I just started my new classes for the fall semester yesterday. One of the classes I am taking is Church History 2 Or HCHT 506. The text for the first week is about Martin Luther. Chadwick says that Luther was the father of the Protestant Reformation. He was deeply moved by this very verse. You see, he knew that man was sinful. Like me he was acutely aware of his own short comings. He knew the law could do nothing but condemn. It could not save. He also knew that penance was not the solution because man's righteousness was like filthy rags to God. Luther saw himself as a sinner condemned before a righteous God who was helpless to save himself. He was the deer in the headlights so to speak. Then he meditated on Romans 1:17 and realized that by faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ man could be saved and only through such faith. Faith opens the door for God to bestow upon us the righteousness of Jesus Christ. We can never be righteous enough to please God, but Jesus embodies the righteousness of God because Jesus is God. God then becomes our righteousness through faith in the substitutionary death of Jesus. To Luther this was earth moving. It changed his whole perspective, and in a sense set off the Protestant Reformation. The reformation had more to do with "indulgences" but Luther believed indulgences were manmade works that had no power to save. That's another question though. Suffice it to say that Luther was deeply moved by Romans 1:17. Luther’s entire theology is based on faith. For Luther, no amount of penance or absolution by a priest can wash away the guilt of sin. This guilt, Luther believes, can only be washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ. The only way to get into contact with that blood is by faith. Luther believes wholly in Romans 3:23 and believes that man is helpless to redeem himself from his fallen state. Only by faith in the completed work of Jesus Christ can one be saved.

Nonsense verse about talking to myself
#2254898 by Graywriter
the author writes about having extremely intelligent conversations...with himself. We all do it! What do you think of talking to yourself?"

I don't worry about talking to myself. It's arguing that gets me into trouble! I had a heck of an argument the other day between Me, Myself, and I. Now I am not speaking to Me and Myself! I thinks I won the argument, but can't convince Me and Myself of that so now we're not speaking at all!

Classes started for me today and as a rule I rush ahead and get them done six weeks early. This time I am going to slow my pace down just slightly. That means I am going to make an effort to do my blog daily.

For my blog "Prompt: Have you ever had a season of doubt or a dark night of the soul? What did that look and feel like? What steps did you take in that season?"

I've had seasons like that. I just reminded myself that God is faithful and that even when I could not sense His presence He was no less real and no less present. God is omnipresent meaning He is everywhere at the same time. If he is everywhere at the same time then it is illogical to believe he would ever not be present. There are times my faith or feelings may waver but my limitations do not limit God in any way, shape, or form.

How do you deal with noisy neighbors?"

I have 14 people living above me, but the floors are concrete so they don't bother me. I've always had bad hearing anyway so noisy upstairs neighbors never bothered me much. Most of the time I was the upstairs neighbor.

For my blog "Prompt: Galatians 6:9-10 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

What are some ways you look for opportunities to do good?"

I consider every situation and opportunity to do good. Sometimes the right thing to do is very pronounced and sometimes it is obscure. However, every situation we encounter is an opportunity to ask ourselves that old cult question that rang so true: "What would Jesus do?"

Every situation, whether big or small, is a situation in which we can hate ourselves more and love God and others more. It should always be Jesus first, others second and ourselves dead last. If we follow that rule in every situation we are less likely to sin. Man is so wrapped up in meeting the needs of self that we seldom think of others. If we do we promise to do something for them and then get side tracked with our own cares and forget about them. Putting Jesus first, others second, and worrying about ourselves last pleases God.

For my blog "Prompt: What is a bible verse or inspirational quote that has been meaningful in your life?"

Today was Day One of a 30 day challenge issued by one of my seminary professors and I am extending the challenge to my readers. The challenge is to pray Romans 8:1-17 every day. The way you do it is you read the passage and insert your name or "me" "I" where ever "us" is used. It is a very powerful prayer! I did it today and cannot imagine what it will be like in 30 days. There is a checklist the professor sends with it. If you want it let me know your email address and I will email it to him and have him send it to you. I do not feel comfortable with putting his email address here. I'm sure he wouldn't mind and he told us to issue the challenge to friends but I cannot give away his information.

Prompt
1 Corinthians 12:8-12
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

What do you believe about spiritual gifts? Are the sign gifts given to people today or were they just for the apostles? Do you believe you have a spiritual gift? If so, what is it?

I did not use to believe the spiritual gifts were active today. I had been taught all of my life that they were not. Then I went to churches where the spiritual gifts were practiced and that left me conflicted about it. I studied it out for myself and I find no concrete evidence that the spiritual gifts ever went away. What I do find is Acts 8:18 that says that the gifts were given by the laying on of the apostle's hands. For a long time I argued that only one of the original thirteen apostles (counting Paul) could pass on the spiritual gifts. So therefore, I was agian convinced the gifts had ceased. However, history is complete with people who had the spiritual gifts, with miraclous healings, with prophets, with evidence of the gifts. The word "apostle" means "sent one" and there are many "sent ones today. I was sent to where I am now, though at the time I did not realize it. So in that sense, I too am an apostle. Therefore there are many apostles in the world today. If there are apostles, it stands to reason they can pass on the gifts. However, the gifts do not function willy-nilly. You don't just declare "I am going to perform a miracle through God tonight like some flim-flam artists do. The gifts only work when the Holy Spirit wants them too and they work individually through a particular chosen vessel. It is wrong to say "I have the gifts of healing," because you may have a healing gift at the moment and then the Holy Spirit will not function in that manner through you again. He does what is needed in the moment so that no one person specifically has any particular "gift" permanently. We all do have the Holy Spirit. We can pray for a new baptism in the Holy Spirit. We always have the Holy Spirit though. Whether or not He chooses to manifest a gift in us is up to Him. Personally, I have spoken in tongues and discerned spirits. I don't do either all the time. I do them when the Lord says so.

I don't know that I am seeking healing in any area of my life now. For the longest time I was seeking healing from drug addiction but I have been clean for over a decade. If I need healing in any area, the Holy Spirit has not revealed it to me yet. He is the Searcher of hearts. He even searches the heart of God to reveal God's unending love. He hasn't revealed anything to me of late that I need healed of.

{image: "Prompt: Tell about a time you felt God calling you to do something uncomfortable."

I have a time like that going on right now. there is a man at church who quit attending. He still drives for the church, but he quit attending church. I believe the reason he quit attending is because another man got a position the man who quit coming felt the other man did not deserve. There has been bickering and friction between the families for a long time. It started before I went there and continues to this day. As an officer of the church, I feel the Lord is calling me to intervene in the struggle. I am friends with both of the men and I do not want to lose the frieendship of either. On the other hand, I do not want to see conflict in the church nor do I want to see either of the men holding a grudge that will send them to hell. So I am going to intervene just as soon as God gives me the right words to do so. I'll pray about it for a week or so and when the opportunity arises I will deal with it.

about jingles. What do you think of jingles? Do they really help?

I think jingles are a good marketing tool. Thhey are easy to remember and make the product memorable. Who doesn't relate "Where's the beef?" to Wendy's Inc. or "Have it your way!" to Burger King? I am sure some remember the body wash Calgon by "Calgon, take me away."

So yes. Jingles do work. The one jingle that i always questioned was "He likes it! Hey, Mikey!"

I never could figure out the "Hey, Mikey", but it stuck with me all these years.

I believe the Holy Spirit is a real person. He is the third person of the Trinity, co-equal to both Father and Son. He can be grieved according to Paul. He directs the church. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is God.
