5. “For just one second, look at Your Life and see how PERFECT it is. Stop looking for the next secret door that is going to lead you to your Real Life. STOP waiting. But I don't want it anymore, I Want Something Else now, something WARM and SHELTERING, something I can Turn To, Regardless of what I Do, Regardless of Who I Become. Something that will JUST BE THERE, ALWAYS, like Tomorrow's Sky. That's what I Want NOW, and I think it's what you SHOULD WANT TOO. But it will be too late soon. We'll become TOO SET to change. The purpose of practicing Zen meditation is to awaken to the Mind. Such practice does not involve just sitting quietly and trying to calm and pacify the mind. Nor does it entail contemplating the breath.

Instead it involves direct inquiry into a hwadu (Koan). An example of a hwadu would be a question such as "What is this?" or What is this mind?"

What you are searching for can be called by many different names: mind, spirit, soul, true nature, and so forth. But such designations are merely labels. You should put aside all of these names and reflect on the fact that the true master of the body is more than just the label "mind."

The master of the body is not the Buddha, for it is not yet awakened. Nor is it anything material, because it cannot be physically given away or received. Nor is it simply empty space, for empty space cannot pose questions, or have knowledge of good and evil.

Hence there is a master who rules this body who is neither the label "mind," the Buddha, a material thing nor empty space. Having negated these four possibilities, a question will arise as to what this master really is.

If you continue inquiring in this way, the questioning will become more intense. Finally, when the mass of questioning enlarges to a critical point, it will suddenly burst. The entire universe will be shattered and only your original nature will appear before you. In this way you will awaken.

Its hard to believe that Dipak Sathe, my friend more than my cousin, is no more. He was pilot of Air India Express carrying passengers from Dubai in 'Vande Bharat Mission', which skidded off the runway at Kozhikode International Airport yesterday night.

What is learnt is as follows:
Landing gears didn't work.
Ex IAF pilot made three rounds of airport to empty the fuel which saved plane from catching fire. That’s why there was no smoke seen coming from the crashed aircraft.
He turned off the engine right before the crash.
He belly landed after the 3rd iteration.
The right wing was ruptured.
The Pilot martyred but saved life of 180 co-passengers.

Deepak was an experienced aerial operator with 36 years of flying experience. A passout of NDA, topper in the 58th course and an awardee of 'Sword of Honour', Dipak served Indian Air Force for 21 years before joining as a Commercial Pilot with Air India in 2005.

He called me just a week before and was jovial, as always. When I asked him about the 'Vande Bharat' Mission, he was proud of bringing back our countrymen from Arab countries. I asked him,"Dipak, do you carry empty Aircraft since those countries are not allowing entry of passengers?" He had replied," Oh, No. We carry fruits, vegetables, medicines etc to these countries and never the aircraft flies to these countries empty." That was my last conversation with him.

He survived in air crash in early nineties when he was in Airforce. He was hospitalised for 6 months for multiple skull injuries and nobody thought that he will fly again. But his strong will power and love for flying made him clear the test again. It was a miracle.

He leaves behind his wife and two sons, both pass outs of IIT Mumbai. He is a son of Brigadier Vasant Sathe who stays in Nagpur along with his wife. His brother, Capt Vikas, was also an Armyman who laid his life while serving in Jammu region.

A soldier lays his life to save the lives of his countrymen.
It reminds me of a poem by a soldier :

If I die in a war zone,
Box me up & send me home

Put my medals on my chest,
Tell my Mom I did the best

Tell my Dad not to bow,
He won't get tension from me now,

Tell my brother to study perfectly,
Keys of my bike will be his permanently

Tell my Sis not to be upset,
Her Bro will not rise after this sunset

And tell my love not to cry,
"Because I am a soldier Born to Die...."

Amazing logic indeed.

Japanese save a lot. They do not spend much. Also, Japan exports far more than it imports. Has an annual trade surplus of over 100 billion. Yet Japanese economy is considered weak, even collapsing.

Americans spend, save little. Also US imports more than it exports.
Has an annual trade deficit of over $400 billion. Yet, the American economy is considered strong and trusted to get stronger.

But where from do Americans get money to spend? They borrow from Japan, China and even India.
Virtually others save for the US to spend. Global savings are mostly invested in US, in dollars.

India itself keeps its foreign currency assets of over $50 billion in US securities. China has sunk over $160 billion in US securities.
Japan's stakes in US securities is in trillions.

Result:

The US has taken over $5 trillion from the world. So, as the world
saves for the US - It's The Americans who spend freely. Today, to keep the US consumption going, that is for the US economy to work, other
countries have to remit $180 billion every quarter, which is $2
billion a day, to the US!

A Chinese economist asked a neat question. Who has invested more, US in China, or China in US? The US has invested in China less than half of what China has invested in US.

The same is the case with India. We have invested in US over $50
billion. But the US has invested less than $20 billion in India.

Why the world is after US?

The secret lies in the American spending, that they hardly save. In fact they use their credit cards to spend their future income. That the US spends is what makes it attractive to export to the US. So US imports more than what it exports year after year.

The result:

The world is dependent on US consumption for its growth. By its deepening culture of consumption, the US has habituated the world to
feed on US consumption. But as the US needs money to finance its consumption, the world provides the money.

It's like a shopkeeper providing the money to a customer so that the customer keeps buying from the shop. If the customer will not buy, the shop won't have business, unless the shopkeeper funds him. The US is like the lucky customer. And the world is like the helpless shopkeeper
financier.

Who is America's biggest shopkeeper financier? Japan of course. Yet it's Japan which is regarded as weak. Modern economists complain that
Japanese do not spend, so they do not grow. To force the Japanese to spend, the Japanese government exerted itself, reduced the savings
rates, even charged the savers. Even then the Japanese did not spend (habits don't change, even with taxes, do they?). Their traditional postal savings alone is over $1.2 trillion. Thus, savings, far from being the strength of Japan, has become its pain.

The world is in a economical mess 😅

Doctor explaining the pandemic to a coma patient who just woke up

Dr: “They shut down the world because of a worldwide pandemic.”

Patient: “OMG! How many people are infected?”

Dr : “About 11 Million.”

Patient: “OMG! 11 million people died?”

Dr: “No, only 500 thousand
 Kind of.”

Patient: “What do you mean ‘kind of’?”

Dr: “Well
they keep halving the number of deaths due to double counting, inaccurate tests and mislabeled death certificates. Also, most of the people that die are elderly and dying of other things. There are also people who died because of incorrect ventilator use and other treatments because no-one really understands the virus.”

Patient: “I don’t get it. So how many died from ONLY the virus
like literally dropped dead in the street?”

Dr: “No-one. Only in hospitals and nursing homes”

Patient: “I don’t get it.”

Dr: “Neither do I, it’s a very confusing time.”

Patient: “So they cured the other 11 million people then?”

Dr: “No, most didn’t have any symptoms and in fact they didn’t even know they had it.”

Patient: “I don’t get it.”

Dr: “Neither do I.”

Patient: “It doesn’t sound very deadly. If the other 11 million people didn’t have symptoms then how do they even know they had the virus?”

Dr: “They were tested.”

Patient: “But you just said that the tests are inaccurate.”

Dr: “They are. No-one has isolated the virus so the tests don’t really test for that.”

Patient: “I don’t get it.”

Dr: “Neither do I.”

Patient: “Ok. So when will this pandemic be over?”

Dr: “When they develop a vaccine to stop the virus.”

Patient: “The virus that nobody gets or dies from.”

Dr: “Exactly.”

Patient: “I don’t get it.”

Dr: “Neither do I.”

Disappeared are my suns to wake up to you.
Gone are my suns to wake up to you.
Every space in my heart embraces you.
You are here and not here,
This line of confusion brings in a little fear,
Said someone “there’s nothing to fear”.
Oh my father, how do I stay clear?

I know things will be rough,
Now that you and I are not on the same turf.
But I promise not to wither, I have no jitters,
I will carry us from bitter to better.

And, I will always keep my head up,
May whatever be the mix up.
For that is how you would have cheered up.

Now I shall face all my fears,
Say goodbye to these tears.
But before I end, let’s make one thing clear.
Dear papa, you and I are forever.
This is my time to steer until the next dawn appears.

A large lotus was growing in a pond. A wanderer passed by, who had never before seen a flower of this kind. Struck by its beauty, he stopped to admire it.
He noticed that a frog and fish were swimming in the water just below the lotus. "What is that wonderful plant right above you?" he asked the frog.
"Well," was the answer, "what should it be? It is nothing very special, just an ordinary thing," and he turned away to hunt for insects.
Disappointed, the man addressed the fish, who replied "Have you not heard what my friend the frog told you? It is just a common everyday thing, nothing special." At that moment, the wayfarer saw a bee flying swiftly towards the lotus. He tried to stop it in order to find out more, but the bee cut him short, "I have got no time right now, wait a bit."
So saying, the bee plunged right into the heart of the blossom, drinking its nectar for a long time. Then he flew over to the man again: "Now you can talk to me." The wanderer repeated his question and added: "tell me, what were you doing there for so long?" "Don't you know?" said the bee joyfully, "this is a marvellous flower, full of delicious nectar which I have been drinking so that I now feel completely refreshed."
It is possible to live for a long time in close proximity to sadhus and mahatmas, sages and saints, without being able to recognise their true quality. Whereas one who is inwardly prepared and ready for such a contact, may come from a great distance and within a minute know the great and holy for what they really are, it depends on one's capacity to penetrate to the essence of things.

Question: We listen to so much that is beautiful.
Answer: Beautiful? As long as you make a distinction between beautiful and ugly, you have not listened.

Question: . . . and some we understand .
Answer: "We understand" that is useless, for he who understands and what is understood have remained separate.

Question: . . . and some we forget .
Answer: Forget? Forget the forgetting; death must die.

Question: . . . and some we remember . .
Answer: remember? That means you keep it in your mind. Throw it away; lay it at His feet. What I say is: keep satsang. Satsang in reality means the realisation of What Is. Remain in the shade of "trees" trees meaning Mahatmas, seekers after Truth, those who do not call anyone, or send anyone away.
Listen to them.
Who can tell when you will learn how to "listen" and when you will hear the Eternal Sound, so that there will be no more listener and no listening.

A similar thing holds good for what is called "darshan," - the blessing of presence. People come, have "darshan" and go away again.
But real darshan means that one can never again be apart from the vision.

Viriya (determination and strength)is a mental thing, not posture. When you are dying your body has no control, it’s the mind that stays mindful.

Sitting and lying meditation is good exercise for viriya because you have to apply more viriya without the support and aid of posture, but you must not keep falling asleep!

When you are not doing sitting meditation, and you don’t have the support of the posture but instead you are sitting on a chair or lying down, the mind relaxes and you need to try mentally harder to keep your mindfulness.

If your viriya is really strong, no matter how your posture is, it doesn’t matter. You can be upside down!

Keep kilesa noted regularly, don’t let it accumulate. Keep relaxed, check for tension now and then, check your emotions.

Are they involved? Are you in control? Don’t panic if you are not, just relax and get in touch.

The Buddha is not the statues and images in the pagodas that people go and visit all day long. The Buddha is inside you.

Just observe whatever the mind can be aware of at the moment, see how it goes to objects how it feels, be aware of it.

When it gets stronger it will be aware of many objects.

Save your energy to last you until the end of the day. Never think like: ‘In the morning it is best, let’s put all the effort then.’ Just practice. Save your energy to go through the whole day, until the end of it.

The mind needs to slow down, become stable.

Q- Ma used to give yoga or meditation exercise to some of her disciples or visitor. When she was alive, she asked then to be kept secret, but now she has left her body ,why we do not write them, like for example one has written the ‘Six yogas of Naropa ‘ after his death?

V: Ma used to give kriyas to some of her disciples and she asked this teaching to be kept secret and not be communicated to anyone .It is difficult to know if she asked for secrecy from all the people who had received these instructions, because probably there are certain people who have received them and will not even speak about it .That is why I can only speak with certainty of my own case. When she was teaching me a kriya, she was always telling me at the end: ‘kisi ko mat bolna’ ’you can’t tell anyone’ .One time she even added: this is a secret kriya. You asked me if now that Ma has left her body, these secret instructions could be written down and published. I do not think that it could be possible. The recommendations of a guru does not lose its authority when the guru leaves his body .Anyhow, the guru is ever present even if he has left his body .If one of his disciple has attained realization himself and has disciples, he could then communicate these instructions to them, but that would probably be done also under a vow of secrecy.

Q. How can it be, and is it true, that Ma had to surround herself by pure people, purity providing her nourishment ?

V. This is like saying that the doctor must be surrounded by healthy people, because that is the way he earns his living. Ma had taken a physical form, mainly to help people in their search for the Supreme Being. This search can only be undertaken through mental purification. Ma was surrounded by people who needed to be purified. She did not have anything to do with perfectly pure people, because they did not need Her. Of course, the people surrounding Her were not (except in rare cases), vicious individuals, because these kind of people do not wish to entrust themselves to a sage. It is true, nevertheless, that those who served Ma had to be capable of observing certain rules of physical purity : chastity, pure food, personal hygiene etc ... but if Ma kept them by Her side, it was because they needed Her help for the purification of their minds. Ma used to say that it was our good conduct that would keep her in good health, but alas!, she fell ill quite often. It is also true that Her body was an extremely sensitive instrument. If she had assumed a physical form, it was not to protect her body, but to absorb the bad ‘Karma’ of her devotees. And it is astonishing how much that body could absorb, and yet maintain a relative equilibrium.

Q. Bhaiji says that the Name of Ma is a unique Mantra, but he also says that the Mantra should be learnt from a teacher, and should be pronounced correctly in order to bear fruit. It seems that the result can be obtained by faith (the Name of Ma), or knowledge (the correct recitation of the Mantras). Which of the two is it?

V. There are two elements in the Mantra. One is its intrinsic value as a word of power, the other is the faith that the disciple has in the force of his Mantra. These two elements strengthen each other mutually. That is, the more the disciple has faith in the Mantra, the more he is infused with power, and vice versa. If a Mantra is known as being a source of power, the faith of the disciple will come naturally. More so, if the Mantra has been passed on by a guru one loves and venerates. When a Sadguru gives a Mantra to his disciples, he passes on spiritual power to them at the same time. Then the repetition gives power to it. Thus the repetition of the Mantra and the awakening of the power will be completely linked. But the essential part is always the faith and the spiritual intensity of the disciple. Any form can lead to Realisation, if the sadhaka firmly believes that it is a powerful Mantra. For those (as in the case of Bhaiji), who are intensely devoted to Ma, just saying her name is enough to evoke her presence, and it will lead them towards an union to the Sadguru personified by the physical form of Ma. However, for the ordinary sadhaka, it is preferable that he repeats the Mantra given to him by the guru during of his initiation. By repeating his Mantras assiduously, true faith will come to him, and his spiritual intensity will progressively increase.
