This stuffed Beanie Baby dog came tagged "tracker" which fits my search for knowledge.

Here are words I like to write
All day long 'til it is night.
Words go up and words go down
When complete approve the sound.

If you complete my little rhyme,
Things will come your way in time.

Prompt 2820 August 9, 2023
Blog City image small

“[Kids] don't remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.” ― Jim Henson, It's Not Easy Being Green: And Other Things to Consider

Do you agree or disagree with Mr. Henson? Discuss moments you've shared with children and their reactions.

Prompt 2820 August 9, 2023
Blog City image small

I understand what Jim Henson meant was that kids look at the way you act, as a mentor, more than what you teach them. I submit from my experience student teaching and serving as a Brownie Scout leader, that kids do remember what you teach them. I taught kids to read, which they learned well from what I taught them. Reading their reading book out loud to the class showed they remembered their training. In addition, in both roles, it was important for me to demonstrate being a responsible person, with good habits of how they looked and acted. They remembered those lessons, demonstrating they remembered when they would show up carrying themselves with confidence and with good decorum. This showed they learned what I taught them.

Therefore, I disagree with Jim Henson's statement that kids don't remember what you teach them. They do remember. That is the reward for an adult being a teacher or leader of a group of kids.

The photo is of the felt plushy alphabet I have been sewing for my grandson. He cuts out the patterns. They vary in height and width.*BigSmile*

The mail person just picked up my package. It is easy and inexpensive to send packages from home. I am excited to see how the person reacts to the contents. There was an order for two things that were delivered late for my grandson's birthday. Instead of sending two items, they sent two packages with three items each.

It is unbelievably cooler here today. There is no rain predicted for the next 10 days. It is monsoon season and we only had one storm on 7/17. They call it a "nonsoon."

I have the guidelines up for using commas somewhere but not handy. I don't always remember the rules. At my age, I should know where to put them.

I am setting goals for the week. Somewhere in my journey around WdC this morning, I saw a place to express my goals, then return on Friday to see whether I reached those goals.

Primary goal: I have been saying I am going to write a real story.
Secondary goal: If I am participating in a contest, get my entry in early.

Ongoing goal: At least 2 reviews per day. I really love doing them.

I think that is enough to do this week. With a college communications class and helping care for my 11-year-old autistic grandson my plate is always full. My solution has always been to get a bigger plate.

I will look back to see if I have anything I promised to do here.

*Checked and I promised the pin bear entry. Cool, now I can get my story I promised to write written.

I worked right through Friday. There is the Blog City prompt which does not motivate me. I thought I am focusing this week on writing stories and waiting on my brainstorming list to create. It seems I turn to one thing and focus on it totally. Contests, then my specialty groups, and always reviewing. I average two a day.

I received a couple of things from the WdC store. The clipboards are super, especially for writing away from my desk. I gave one to my grandson so we can play tic tac doe and hangman sitting in chairs in the living room. The merchandise from the store is quality stuff. Each time I have ordered they slip in a bookmark & half a dozen pens. I have a long wish list.

I will write an entry soon about my Pin Bear. Here is a picture of it.

In a previous day's blog review, I promised to publish an email I sent to my niece last week. I keep in touch with most of the family via email. It is so much easier than long-hand snail mail letters which were a prominent part of my life. One thing I always have handy is cool-designed stationery.

Meme Do what you love, love what you do.

I have completed 10 reviews for Dave Ryan , one for each chapter of his book. I honestly did not think it would take so long, but I wanted to do a thorough job. Reviewing is the best thing I like to do here. I had to evaluate customer service interactions for most of my 45-year customer service career. After all that time, I still love doing it.

I am off to click on Read and Review. It is like eating a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.

I tried. I did not finish. It feels good to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all. It was exhausting. Note to self: quit overcommitting. There are only so many hours in a day. Balance. All things in moderation, remember?

Patting myself on the back. Yesterday, ruwth asked for anyone to write an essay for her contest closing yesterday at midnight. She needed at least one more entry to allow her to award 1st,2nd, and 3rd. I emailed her around 11:29 AM saying I will write an essay. It had to be submitted by 9 PM my time. I posted it around 8:40 PM. I wrote about autism, something I know a lot about. I think it looks polished for a rushed job.

I also finished my little princess and unicorn story promised to a friend.

I replied to a grand-niece in an email today which I am going to post as an entry. It is biographically related to my story "Bruce".

That's a wrap!

Prompt: Your pockets
Write about what you put in your pockets. Do what you find in them sometimes surprise you?

I am not always dressed in something that has pockets. When I do, they are not deep pockets. I put my phone, my hair scrunchie, and tissues in the pocket. If I am going out I will take a little leather folder with my ID, debit card, and a credt card. I try to keep 5 $20 dollar bills in case of an emergency. I don't find anything surpising, although once I found a penny. I have no idea how it got there.

Let the marathon begin. My sad story comes back to haunt me. Jeremy has a great

contest for July which ends tomorrow. Tour de Ports specifies the number of reviews

needed throughout the month ex: registered authors. The total needed to complete is

26. My first mistake was not hearing about it until 7/16. I had 18 done when I

realized I had not put the contest banner on those reviews. That was a few days ago. I

started over and have 7. I have 19 more to do by tomorrow night at midnight. If you have

received a review from me you know they are complete and thorough.

Blog City Prompt: Christmas in July. Do you do anything that is Christmas related in July?

7/27/23 prompt a day late but I have a good reason.
I attended a virtual Christmas in July party this afternoon. I waited to make this late response knowing this party was today for two hours. Here is the centerpeace:

And there were four giveaways. The winners will be announced after the computer fairly picks the winners in a few days. I have not won anything for over a year. This is the one I really hope to win.

I bought a birthday gift for the youngest of my eleven grandchildren since his birthday is in the Christmas in July month. We have two children who wanted to have more sisters and brothers so they had to take care of that want themselves.

I have not done any traditional Christmas thing in July this year. Nor last year. Or the year before that. I noticed my next door neighbor put Christmas lights up on their back patio around the first of July. They just moved here from Florida. I thought it might be something Floridians do.

Christmas is a double-edged sword for me. It is on December 25th every year. I decorate on the first of December. The day after Christmas everything comes down. It is soon replaced with purple crepe paper on my birthday New Year's Eve.

I wrote my second poem today for my portfolio. I expressed, in a review I did of a poem, that at one time I wrote 100 poems. I wrote 99 and quit. Poetry is not my "thing". Ned nordinccnoir commented that he read my first poem and I should continue to write more poetry. Always a people pleaser, here is my second poem. "The Pencil. I will need to let Ned know.

See you tomorrow.

A fabulous entry was chomped up and spit out into cyber space shortly after midnight last night. I had not saved to edit as I normally do. I went to nab an image number to insert in the final entry. I was certain I completed everything successfully. I signed in and it is nowhere to be found.

I am writing the prompt from Blog City for today. Each day I plan to do one. Invariably midnight comes and I have not written it. We even get an advanced notice of the day's prompt.

I write these things down so I don't get full of myself when things are sailing along smoothly. Others may just wait for the other shoe to drop. Not me. I rejoice and enjoy to abandon.

Tuesday was trivia day. I missed it.
Today is Thursday history day.

I know what will be included. I just need to write it up. The rest of the day will be blog entries, reviews, and finally completing my Kudos to You group entry where my exclusive MB is being given for the first time ever. A temporary one I created already was given so it is not a secret it went to Schnujo is in Paraguay.

This will be a multiple-posting blog day. Enjoy!
