You missed one of the requirements; the world will live as one must appear somewhere in your work, in bold. For the rest: I agree with your message. Well written.
I must say that the future-you took the right decision not to change a thing in the past. Made me still realize again that you had an awful time, those four years.
Lovely link to WDC at the end. Now - when they know the outcome of the quest, they have to travel back, or do they go further en route for new adventures?I am curious to find out if they travel on.
Sad - the passing of the father. Good to know they made it to Pier 41 to fulfill his last wish.
Made me think a bit of my own dad, who passed away exactly 14 years ago on this day.
And if the interview should have taken place, I think Gerard Cox and Yehoram Gaon would have taken up the challenge to write a new version too. (Up to date both men are still alive) Well done.
I had a good laugh reading your story. Learned the Madame Janette pepper a couple of years ago, while celebrating the birthday of a friend of my son. Her mother warned us for the Janette peppers - these were hidden in a sweet-sour cucumber salad. My husband shot fire too and drank a liter water. Didn't help. Thank God they had milk at home. (milk neutralizes the heat of pepper). Well written story!
